The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –
Yesterday, the Tennessee’s House lawmakers received their official committee assignments for the 114th General Assembly and Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill-District 92) has been removed from the House Education Administration Committee and the K-12 Education Subcommittee after serving on both for the last four years.
In a sit down with Rep. Warner, The Tennessee Conservative asked if he got put back on the education committee.
“Absolutely not,” said Warner. “[I’m] Starting my third term, my first four years up here, I’ve been on every education committee and this year I didn’t get a one.”
Warner has been assigned to the State & Local Government Committee, the Public Service Subcommittee, and the new Naming & Designating Committee.
This committee reassignment is rumored to be a result of Warner’s outspokenness in the education committees last year on the issue of school choice vouchers.
If Gov. Lee and House leadership’s goal this year is to pass the Education Freedom Act, dissenting votes in committee might not help garner the support they need to pass legislation with an over $250 million per year associated cost.
“It’s just, you know, it’s the speaker’s choice,” Warner told The Tennessee Conservative. “It’s his call, but you know, if that’s what they want to do, God bless ‘em.”
