A Robertson County woman has been charged with election fraud for allegedly falsifying information related to her address in order to run for City Commissioner of Orlinda.
47-year-old Julie Ann Bernard was indicted by a Robertson County Grand Jury on one count of false entries on official registration of election documents. This is a Class D felony which could result in up to twelve years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
The indictment states that Bernard completed a Robertson County Election Commission Candidate Nomination Petition for the August 2024 election, listing a home on Moore Street as her residence.
Moore Street is located within the incorporated boundaries of Orlinda, making Bernard eligible to run for the position. However, the indictment alleges that Bernard’s residence is actually a home on Sparkman Road, which is outside of the boundaries, making her ineligible for the office.
Smoky Barn News reports that a complaint made to the District Attorney’s office led to an investigation, according to Deputy District Attorney Jason White. The case then went before the Grand Jury.
Bernard was booked in the Robertson County Detention Facility on Friday, January 24, where she stayed for about an hour before posting a $5,000 bond.
