A Marion County teacher was dismissed from her job last week after it was discovered that she sent inappropriate pictures to an 18-year-old student.
Dr. Mark Griffith, Marion County Director of Schools, announced on Friday that school officials at Whitwell High School were made aware of the situation around 11:30 on Thursday morning and initiated an investigation.
The teacher, who was not identified, was in her first year at the school.
According to Griffith, the teacher originally denied the allegations, but “then there was ad admittance of guilt.”
Griffith said the teacher resigned from her position before the district could terminate her.
According to Marion County authorities, the teacher is not currently facing any criminal charges.
