Middle Eastern countries are entirely right to oppose President Trump’s plan to evacuate the Gaza Strip and resettle the Palestinians in nearby countries.
I don’t say this out of any sympathy for the Gazans. They have more than proven that they have no business running a state, no less a state next to Israel–a country that the vast majority of Palestinians want to see wiped off the face of the Earth.
Trump on Egyptians and Jordanians needing to take in Gazans as refugees (despite their long opposition to it): “I would like to see Jordan and Egypt take some of — the Gaza thing has now worked. No, the problem is not that evacuating the Palestinians from Gaza is cruel or unfair–although arguably, it is the latter. It’s that the Palestinians have proven to be political and social poison wherever they settle. Ask the Jordanians. Ask the Lebanese. Wherever large numbers of Palestinian “refugees” settle, chaos and death follow.
Where Palestinians go, wars follow. And I am not referring to Israelis fighting Palestinians–that is a given because Palestinians are committed to killing Israelis until the state no longer exists. No matter where Palestinians settle–in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Europe, or the United States–they are trouble for the ruling regime.
I don’t mean to suggest that Palestinians are, by birth, any more warlike than any other group of human beings. All human beings have the capacity to be civilized or agents of chaos. Look at the history of Germany if you doubt that; at times, it has been one of the most civilized and culturally vibrant cultures in human history; at others, it has been among the most brutal.
Palestinian culture is focused entirely on grievance, and its main motivation is war against anybody who stands in the way of their revenge.
Jordan’s civil war was caused by Palestinians. Lebanon has been a disaster since the 1970s because of the Palestinians. Palestinians are trained from birth that terrorism is glorious, and Allah celebrates martyrdom. The Palestinian Authority spends $300 million a year supporting the families of “martyrs.” The UNRWA runs schools that teach children that killing people is a calling.

There is lots of talk among Arabs about Palestinians having inalienable rights. Blah blah blah. They just want nothing to do with them.
No sane government would want anything to do with Palestinians. Jordan and Egypt border Palestinian territories, and they have border controls that are more stringent than those of the Israelis because they know how poisonous Palestinian ideology is.
That puts Trump and Israel in a bind, but the bind isn’t caused by Arab intransigence. No matter where the Palestinians settle, they will bring death and destruction. And, no matter where they go, they will still present a threat to the world.
I freely admit that I, as with everybody who has thought about this problem, have no good solution. People have tried to solve the problem for decades with no success.
Trump’s diplomacy in his first term led to the Abraham Accords–one of the most stunning diplomatic successes of the past few decades. His efforts to constrain Iran were making progress, and with a defanged Iran, the Palestinians lost important support. Defunding “Palestine” and destroying the terrorist infrastructure–including the billions of dollars that flow in every year to bolster terrorism–are necessary but not sufficient.
Longer term? Who knows? Right now, the Palestinians are a people who revere Nazis. The Nazis were cleared out because they were decisively defeated, occupied, and re-civilized. Can the same be done with the Palestinians?
I haven’t a clue.
But if I were advising a Middle Eastern country about what to do I would tell them to build the biggest wall possible, electrify the fence, and watch Escape From New York to get tips on how to keep people locked up in a small geographic area.
I support Israel 100%. I would love to see the Palestinians somewhere else, as far away from Israel and any sane government as possible.
