One law for the eco-loons, another for little old ladies at prayer

ON SATURDAY, climate change protesters occupied a Tesla electric car showroom in in West London, claiming that Elon Musk has built his empire through ruthless exploitation, union busting and dangerous working conditions.

In a statement on X, Climate Resistance said that Tesla’s reliance on cobalt from Congo ‘keeps fuelling instability in the region that has resulted in the death and displacement of thousands’.

Elsewhere on X, Climate Resistance stated: ‘The super-rich profit from poverty, torch the planet, and rig the system in their favour — it’s time to tax them out of existence and use that wealth to fund climate action.’

Protesters at the Tesla showroom sat on the ground for 25 minutes and unfurled a large blue banner bearing the words ‘Abolish Billionaires’.

It is unclear whether any arrests took place, though the protesters were removed by security staff, one being carried out of the showroom by his arms and legs while still holding his megaphone.

The mild treatment of their protest was in stark contrast to the police response to cases of mostly elderly individuals subjected to serial arrest and interrogated about their thoughts for simply standing in prayer near abortion centres while silently offering a more caring alternative to killing the preborn.

Numbers of abortions have recently risen massively, largely because of Boris Johnson’s covid-era decision to send abortion pills through the post. However, some women still visit abortion centres for ‘treatment’ – the kind of treatment that kills one of the patients.

The ‘double standards’ displayed in the official response to these two campaigns may be explained by the fact that while the pro-life movement, even though it seeks to save the lives of the weakest, is characterised as ‘right-wing’, while environmentalism is favoured by the opinion-forming left-liberal progressive class. Climate Resistance is a campaign of ‘watermelons’ – ‘green on the outside, red on the inside’  – so is viewed by the Left as being in the right, while those who try to offer help to needy pregnant women are regarded as dangerous extremists. Indeed, a leaked memo from the Home Office dismissed Christian concerns about ‘two-tier policing’ as a ‘right-wing extremist narrative’.

If Climate Resistance got their way, the future would be bleak for any children that do get to be born, but at least they target the most powerful rather than the most vulnerable: nobody has yet called for the legalised killing of billionaires.

Of course, the human population have been blamed for environmental degradation and plunder, perhaps explaining why pro-life ‘protests’ are treated as so much more dangerous than the ‘largely peaceful’ activities of Climate Resistance.

But if we do a double-take at the double standards regarding ‘largely peaceful’ mass blockades by climate protesters versus the silent prayers of ‘extremist’ elderly ladies, let us hope they are also praying for the salvation of Western civilisation.
