The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –

Metro Nashville Councilwoman Ginny Welsch has introduced a resolution denouncing the U.S. Government and the State of Israel, claiming both entities are contributing to genocide of the Palestinian people.

Representing District 16, Welsch was first elected in 2019 and has sponsored approximately 1,500 pieces of legislation since assuming office. Her latest proposal seeks to blame the State of Israel for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide in Palestine under the United Nations Genocide Convention.

The resolution cites presumed casualty numbers of journalists, Palestinian citizens, and medical workers in the conflict between Israel and Palestine and claims Israel has blocked aid supplies including food, fuel, water, and medicine from entering Gaza,” but neglects to mention other reports of looting and terrorist actions keeping civilians from receiving supplies.

Shifting focus to the United States, the resolution declares that the U.S.’ assistance of Israel through military weapons and other financial support and the importing of U.S.-made military vehicles and arms have “been identified as being used to conduct acts of genocide”.

She also calls pro-Palestinian protestors “anti-genocide activists” and states their constitutional right to free speech has been violated by arrests, imprisonments, deportations, and “violent attacks by law enforcement”.

In her conclusion, Welsch proposes the Metro Council denounce these “genocidal” acts from both governments and affirm that the “humanitarian crisis” requires immediate action, including the cease of all sales and transfer of military arms and financial support to Israel.

Furthermore, the resolution calls for the council to demand the U.S. and Israel work to protect the right of Palestinians to “live in their homeland free from violence as required by international law” and cease to call criticism of Israeli government policies “inherently anti-Semitic”.

Senator Marsha Blackburn called the resolution “absurd” and recommended Welsch reexamine her statements. The Councilwoman has it wrong. Has she forgotten about the pain that Hamas, Hezbollah, and others have inflicted on thousands of innocent people? She should stay informed,” Blackburn posted to X.

Author and political commentator Dr. Carol Swain is urging Nashvillians to contact their councilors about the legislation as she believes, “The resolution ignores reality and risks fueling more antisemitism. It’s time to send your city council member a strongly worded message about this proposed legislation and whether it represents the will of the people.”

Welsch’s own social media presence consists of a private X account with the handle “no pass for fascism”, which only allows users to see her posts after requesting access, and a Facebook page promoting events like anti-ICE protests and encouraging community members to use resources tracking immigration activities and officers.

It also appears she has been highly regarded by Democrats in the state for her work as she was honored by Democrat Senator London Lamar with a Senate Resolution (SR) in 2024, recognizing her as “awe-inspiring” and an “invaluable asset” to Nashville. Since the SR was placed on the consent calendar and no Senator asked to have it separated for its own vote, it unanimously passed 33-0.

Welsch’s condemnation resolution is on the agenda for the regularly scheduled council meeting on October 9 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the public can watch the meeting online.
