Understanding the battle for the soul of America

FOR A long time, and certainly fully exposed since 2016, there has been a clash of two totally opposing understandings of the world. These two forces are globalism and populism, and they are more important and more divided than left and right. Each is more dominant on one of the traditional sides of politics than the other, but each also crosses those old left-right lines and in some ways make them obsolete.

In the US the catalyst for understanding this new reality, the person who was both agent and symptom of this realisation, was Donald Trump. His win in 2016 gave the US its most unashamedly patriotic President since Theodore Roosevelt. People who hate him today try to make all of us forget how much Trump was seen as an embodiment of a positive American self-image before he left the acceptable elite circles of rich people who vote Democrat. Trump was the American Dream, or at least the story of his family was.

Political reality across the Western world has been frozen in the positions made clear in 2016, which are that major corporations, many billionaires, the mainstream media, privileged classes such as celebrities and actors or some sections of the professional middle class, are all determined on a set of policies that the majority of ordinary people don’t want while claiming that those who do have majority backing are ‘threats to Our Democracy’. These policies include mass migration, open borders, factories situated abroad or foreign workers moved to the West (whichever means the most short-term profit) and a whole host of radical leftist social ideas on race, gender, identity, liberty and sovereignty. They also want to extend State control, censor dissent, and move to things like central bank digital currencies.

The larger working class, and the more aware parts of the middle class, opposed this model, understanding correctly that the Globalist system being developed was not the majority or centrist position at all, but was removing rights and representation which the working class had spent centuries trying to obtain. Everything in the mainstream presentation of what was happening was false. It wasn’t populists like Trump or Farage or Meloni or Orban who were possessed of authoritarian tendencies and radical ideology – it was the mainstream which had gone that way, the respectable media and the respectable institutions and parties that refused to allow different policies to be followed and which increasingly took away basic civil liberties or deployed propaganda and censorship to justify and conceal their own crimes.

The record of radical contempt for democratic results from globalists is clear now, as is the record of mainstream media dishonesty and malice. We have seen this in the obvious fraud of the 2020 US election, the 2020 covid tyrannies, and the adoption of extreme and expensive Net Zero policies without public vote. We have seen it in the draconian response to the Southport riots, the measures being taken to reverse Brexit in the UK, and the wave of legislation across Europe that has had US Trump administration figures accurately warning that Western nations are losing free speech and the values they share with the US.

Now a new front has opened in this war, and it might best be described as an attempt by the globalist forces to outflank populism altogether. It’s a front that has been required in the US in a way it hasn’t been required in the UK, primarily because of Trump and his superhuman traits of political survival. In the UK the globalist cause is still in power, and proceeds by the familiar routes. The Labour government do tyrannical things, and the mainstream media largely lies about it in support of the government. US globalists are stymied from proceeding in this fashion on unpopular policies by Trump. It’s likely that if he hadn’t won in 2024, Nato would already have the direct war with Russia that globalists want. Under the federal system, of course, Democrat-run areas can still pursue quite a lot of insanity, as we see in California and New York. But in foreign policy particularly, in the wars they want and the alliances they don’t want, the Trump Presidency can be a major impediment to globalist plans. Often the only impediment to those plans.

All this is the context for understanding developments that on the surface appear to be some kind of internal schism in the MAGA movement or in the US right. Globalists had to deal with the reality of the Trump administration taking measures they despise and with the fact that their entertainment and media mouthpieces were no longer setting the national discourse.

The solution they found was alternative media. Mainstream media’s record of dishonesty had created a climate in which alternative media flourished, citizen journalism exploded to fill the vacuum created by professional journalists being nothing but lying partisan hacks, and people who left mainstream media outlets could be more influential as private or independent podcasters. For a time this was a huge problem for Establishment narratives and they struggled to regain control. But there was also a problem in this for populists like Trump. The reality is that Trump is not any kind of extremist, nor is his administration. But universal distrust of mainstream propaganda, justified as it was, does open the door for charlatans, hucksters, grifters and genuine extremists who feed on this situation where everything presented as respectable has been a lie.

That leads some people to be very open to anything alternative, even if that, too, is a lie, and indeed even if it crazy and far beyond the bounds of what ordinary Populist redress of Globalist extremes is.

This is where Nick Fuentes comes from, but this is also where the turn of Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens comes from too. I believe these people have been built up and financially supported by those who, five or ten years previously, would have been trying to silence them. In Carlson’s case, there’s a clear point where the extremist Jew hatred emerges, and it’s coincidentally around the same point when we know Carlson starts receiving money from Qatar. Carlson has been purchased by Islamic interests, with the goal of using Jew hatred to facilitate the Islamic conquest of the US and to normalise Islamic regimes abroad. This is obvious in Tucker’s recent commentary, which includes attacks on the Trump administration and attacks on Christians as well as attacks on Israel and on Jews. It’s especially obvious in his now open support for radical Islam, in which he recently scoffed at the idea of Islamic terrorism as a threat and lied by pretending to be unaware of any Islamic terrorism against the US in the last 24 years.

Jew hatred aligns what has been aptly described as the Woke Reich (a better description than Woke Right, since there’s nothing genuinely right-wing in their positions now) with Islamic conquest of the West and of the US and with corrupt Democrat and globalist interests too. The purpose is to split the right, infect the right with leftist thinking, and undermine the Trump administration either by smearing them by association with these lunatics, or by forcing them to engage in a battle on this flank which weakens the direct battle against the Democrats.

Turning alternative media on Trump and against MAGA is a turn that has been purchased by huge amounts of money flowing towards alternative media influencers and podcasters with the instruction that they should for example spread false Democrat narratives about Trump and Epstein or the same leftist narratives that Muslim lovers and radical progressives give about the ‘genocide’ in Gaza. Scores of alternative media figures are saying exactly what benefits globalist interests, exactly what discredits the right, and exactly what embroils the right in another front where our true aims can be bogged down and our true nature demonised.

Trump, fortunately, has actually largely kept the Woke Reich at a distance and has little alignment with them beyond Trump’s own classical liberal adherence to free speech. But JD Vance is being increasingly unwise in backing his friend Tucker no matter how damaging Carlson is being.

Buying the alternative media influencers of the Woke Reich killed two birds with one stone. It stopped those people attacking mainstream corruption and extremism and Democrat and Woke targets and it turned them against a strong foreign ally, against Western civilisation itself, and against MAGA and sane populism.

That’s where this schism comes from. A new front, created by the old enemy. And that enemy isn’t Israel.
