Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

STAFF at four Scottish universities — Aberdeen, Heriot-Watt, Stirling and Strathclyde — are threatening industrial action over plans for compulsory redundancies.

All over the UK jobs are being lost because of the government’s imposition of VAT on private school fees and the decision to increase employers’ national insurance contributions.

Thousands of jobs in the oil and gas industry are being sacrificed every month on the climate change altar.

Why do these university people, who have enjoyed more than generous salaries and more than generous employers’ pension contributions of 22.5 per cent from April 1, 2024, feel they are special? Welcome to the real world.
