What I find most irritating about the high-minded lefties who infect the newspapers and leer at us out of our TV screens is not their ideology but their ignorance and stupidity when they claim that the attacks on Iran are ‘illegal’ and ‘contrary to the rules-based world order and an affront to the UN that has sustained us since 1945’.
At least 60 of the 190 states in the UN are officially classified as dictatorships.
Where was international law in the USSR’s invasion of Hungary in 1956, for example? Or where was such abstract idealism in Sennacherib’s attack on Jerusalem in 701 BC? Or in Athens vs Sparta, Rome against Gaul, Hitler contra mundum? Countries do not exist in order to fulfil the utopian fantasies of the loony left but they have always acted in their own perceived interests.
