The Tennessee House unanimously passed legislation that would require that meeting agendas for certain government agencies be made public in advance.

House Bill 1797 (HB1797), sponsored by State Representative Susan Lynn (R-Mount Juliet-D57), was replaced with companion Senate Bill 1775 (SB1775), sponsored by State Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga-D10).

As written, the bill would “add the governing body of a local education agency and any other local governing body of a public body with the authority to make binding decisions or the ability to appropriate funds to the list of governing bodies that are required to make meeting agendas available to the public in advance of such meetings.”

The legislation passed with 94 ayes and 0 noes.

SB1775 had already passed on the Senate floor on March 9.

Once signed into law, the legislation would take effect immediately.
