The War in Iran Is Safer for Americans Than a Month on the Streets in Chicago – HotAir

So that was a pretty freaky deaky statement by Clay Travis on Jesse Watters’ show last night. Not because it wasn’t true, but because it was.

…”The streets of Chicago are more dangerous for Americans than the skies above Iran.”

Regardless of your point of view on OEF, our military is performing heroically and expertly, and I celebrate them.

The local CBS station had the tally for this past Easter weekend.

Three people are dead, and 11 others were hurt in weekend shootings across Chicago as of Sunday.

The ages of the victims range from 15 to 49, according to Chicago police.

It’s kind of wild how they do it. I guess they’re trying to humanize the carnage. They have headings that give the day, and then a rundown of every incident with names if they have them.

They cover the whole weekend chronologically.

Shootings from Friday

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 42-year-old man was involved in an argument with an unknown man in the 4500 block of South Drexel Boulevard shortly after 5:30 p.m. Police said the unknown man pulled out a gun and shot in the victim’s direction, hitting him in his left hand, chest, and right shoulder.

The gunman left the scene on foot, police said.

The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in serious condition and later died.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday…

It is terribly depressing reading.

Monday, if his story was true, a good guy won, so that was a bright spot.

Shootings from Monday

  • At 1:30 a.m., a 33-year-old man was inside his home in the 2200 block of East 103rd Street, near Crandon Avenue, when he said an intruder came in and charged at him. The man told police he shot the intruder in the chest, and the intruder died at the scene.

But being in Chicago, the victim’s probably already been arrested for murder.

Brandon Johnson is the Chicago Teachers’ Union tool and posturing Bear of Little Brains mayor, who is perched atop this tottering, rotting edifice that was once one of America’s great cities. Granted, there is a good deal of the decay that can be ascribed to his immediate, nearly as pathetic predecessor, the risible and revolting Lori Lightfoot.

But a whopping helping of the chaos and carnage swirling in the streets can be laid directly at the feet of the mentally fragile and intellectually overwhelmed beneficiary of the time-honored Chicago union political machine.

Since his installation day, Johnson has been a disaster in every respect except keeping the Chicago Teachers’ Union slush fund flush.

His anti-crime policies have had the opposite effect.

Shootings up 78% in Chicago in one week, as city suffers two-month murder surge

Shootings in Chicago have increased 78% in just the past seven days, according to fresh data from CPD analyzed by the NBC 5 Investigates team.

Those skyrocketing shooting statistics are contributing to a troubling Chicago crime spike across all of February and March. The city has seen back-to-back months with shootings up significantly from one year ago, along with homicides during February and March.

While two months doesn’t necessarily make a trend, the climbing numbers are raising concerns.

A shooting in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood is one of the latest. A 25-year-old woman walking near Rush Street and Chicago Avenue when she was shot in her thigh Monday night by a stray 9mm bullet — one of nine shots fired from a passing car that was targeting a vehicle that then crashed.

According to CPD crime statistics from late March reviewed by NBC 5 Investigates, there were 32 shootings in the city between March 23 and March 29. During the same period in 2025, there were 18 shootings. That reflects a 78% spike in shootings.

Contrary to his repeated assertions, Chicago’s kids are neither foolish nor alright. Johnson’s repeated indulgence of repeat juvenile offenders and soft-on-crime attitude towards adults, coupled with his hostile relations with law enforcement, make things difficult all around.

NSFW: lots of N-words floating around

This is just the kiddos killing time on a street corner before they get to actually killing.

The past few weekends have seen boisterous ‘youth’ as Hizzoner refers to them (don’t you just love that?) organize street gatherings that are so large and so potentially violent that the overburdened and undermanned Chicago Police cannot contain them.

A week ago, the ‘teens’ were out past their bedtime.

A while ago, a woman just wanted to get through the intersection, and it went very badly for her when ‘the teens’ became upset.

Kids just want to have fun, you know?

This was this past Saturday night in the Bear’s city.

ZOOM ZOOM!

Now, instead of being irked that so many youths are running amok and terrorizing his citizens, the Bear of Little Brains is very concerned about the semantics when describing these roving teen gangs. The mayor insists that one speaks of these ‘large gatherings’ in ‘the appropriate ways.’

DON’T CALL THEM MOBS

I couldn’t invent someone this intellectually dense if I tried. I do not have that capacity.

The Bear can afford to show little empathy for the suffering of his citizens because, unlike them thanks to him, he’s surrounded by a 150-Chicago-Police-Officer security cocoon, protecting his precious, privileged self.

That lets him talk about important things like ‘reparations’ the city cannot afford…

…Johnson’s “Repair Chicago” is not reparations in any meaningful sense. Far from a solution, it is a diversion, an attempt to repackage grievance while sidestepping responsibility for the tangible damage Johnson’s administration — and that of his longtime ally, the Chicago Teachers Union — has inflicted on the Black community today.

Yet Johnson and his allies need a distraction from their record. The Black community — ostensibly the intended beneficiary of his reparations initiative — is the same community that has disproportionately suffered from his failures to ensure safety, quality education, and economic opportunity.

Crime and disorder

Johnson has repeatedly excused or minimized crime. When teen mobs overtook downtown streets in the summer of 2023, he brushed it off as “kids being silly,” while condemning critics for referring to them as “baby Al Capones.” That instinct to frame every breakdown of order as evidence of systemic racism, rather than civic failure, has left many Black neighborhoods feeling unprotected and abandoned.

Chicago still struggles with violent crime, and recent reporting shows that high-priority 911 calls often go unanswered. In 2024, nearly half of all 127,000 of high-priority calls had no police available for immediate response, a 50 percent nonresponse rate. In 2023, the rate was 52 percent, compared with one percent in 2019.

Johnson also dismantled tools that were proven to save lives. He canceled the ShotSpotter gunshot detection program, denouncing it as racist, even though the city kept it in place during the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Chicago Police had credited the technology with helping save lives, and the loss of that tool only deepened the city’s response gap.

…and ‘TRUMP!’ or ‘ICE’ instead…

…of what’s really going on in the city he’s supposed to be running.

*sigh*

Nobody has to even wonder where the ‘youth’ get it from. Or why they are running wild in the Chicago streets.

The Chicago mayor does not believe in punishment.

WE CANNOT INCARCERATE OUR WAY OUT OF VIOLENCE

The chaos that follows the mayor’s unfathomable and incomprehensible attitude towards them isn’t a one-off. It imbues everything the man touches.

His toxic brand of racist grievance war has infected and affected every aspect of life in the entire city, making life so much worse for those who have to stay.
