Legislation intended to keep immigration officers safe while they carry out operations has been signed into Tennessee law by Governor Bill Lee.

HB2506/SB1464 makes it a Class E felony for state and local officials to negligently release certain personal identifying information of federal, state, or local officers involved in active immigration enforcement operations. Examples of such information would be home addresses, personal license plates, phone numbers, or emails. Information related to specific operational activities, such as dates, times, location, logistics, or strategies must also be kept confidential.

The legislation passed in both the House and the Senate along party lines.

The Tennessee General Assembly has seen a slew of bills related to immigration this year with many now waiting on the governor’s desk for Lee to take action.
