When Are You Going to Fire Assassination Clown Kimmel, Anyway? – HotAir

Looks like the war will start again after all. Not the war between Iran, the US, and Israel, which may start again soon as well. I’m talking about the war between the Trumps and Disney’s favorite assassination comic, Jimmy Kimmel.

Donald Trump and his supporters nearly got Kimmel fired last year after the late-night host bald-faced lied about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kimmel got taken off the air for a week, and ABC had to fight a war with its affilites to get him fully back on the air. Kimmel never apologized for blaming the assassination on MAGA and claimed First Amendment martyrdom for having his paycheck threatened over his content. ABC followed up by giving Kimmel a 13-month extension, which, in the parlance of network TV, wasn’t exactly a resounding vote of confidence.

Well, Kimmel’s back to exploring all of the humor that can be mined from assassinations. Before the attack on the White House Correspondents Dinner took place, Kimmel offered a ‘compliment’ to Melania Trump in a gag that also included Barron Trump:

Narrator: They were, in fact, not better than this. It’s the second time that Kimmel has used assassinations in his “comedy,” which, for at least the last several months, has been indistinguishable from a Cole Allen manifesto. The only marginal mitigating context for this is that Kimmel did this bit a couple of days before the WHCD. That’s not at all to argue that Kimmel would have refrained from delivering this bit tonight if given the chance, and I’d give even odds that he will say something at least as objectionable if not worse.

First Lady Melania Trump usually stays out of political and cultural fights, but slapped back at Kimmel today.

People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.

A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him.

Enough is enough.  It is time for ABC to take a stand.  How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.

Her husband followed up with another demand to Disney to take Kimmel off the air permanently:

Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his Show that is really shocking. He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, “Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.” A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason. I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Will Disney fire Kimmel this time around? This is arguably worse than Kimmel’s last contretemps, where he just lied about the assassination without explicitly promoting it. This time, Kimmel clearly cheered on the idea of a Trump assassination and wrapped it up as less of a joke than as an inside nod to the lunacy of his audience, his writing staff, and himself. Like the other network late-night hosts, Kimmel has curated his audience down to a dedicated core of Antifa activists and lunatics like the Ostroushkos of Minneapolis. He’s serving up red meat to rabid dogs, and Disney and ABC are complicit in that effort.

However, I suspect that ABC won’t even suspend Kimmel this time around, although they should. The last time this happened, Kimmel leveraged his suspension into a First Amendment cause – thanks in part to intemperate remarks from FCC commissioner Brendan Carr – and fired up Hollywood into saving his job. Kimmel would again claim that Trump is trying to shut down free speech and generate another round of left-wing pressure on Disney to keep from caving to Orange Man Bad.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

That’s not what’s happening here, of course. Trump just got targeted by an assassin for the third time in less than two years, and Kimmel is actively promoting the idea on network TV. The Trumps aren’t threatening to abuse power to push Kimmel off the air either, but raising a free-market question about whether Disney and ABC are in the business of promoting political violence. Given that Trump himself is the primary target for that violence, he has every right to demand some answers to those who platform calls to violence and mainstream them. The rest of us have every right to ask those questions, too – and we should.

Unfortunately, I’m skeptical that ABC or Disney has the moral courage to finally impose a Kïmmeldämmerung, no matter how much their late-night assassination ass-clown deserves one.
