Ursula Is Not Just a Villain in The Little Mermaid, But a Free Speech Arsonist in Real Life – HotAir

No wonder Keir Starmer is working hard to get the UK back into the clutches of the European Union and why he has mused about building a strategic relationship with China.

He shares their values, especially when it comes to free speech.

Freedom of the press is one of the cornerstones of democracy.

And the EU protects what matters, including the right to receive independent, reliable information.

The European Media Freedom Act helps keep journalists and sources safe, strengthens editorial independence and protects media organisations from undue interference or legal intimidation.

Today, on World Press Freedom Day, we reaffirm our duty to support and protect journalists so they can do their work free from pressure, intimidation, or harm.

Sunday was World Press Freedom Day, and I was bombarded with nauseating posts on X from European leaders and, worst of all, Ursula von der Leyen, about their commitment to free speech and a free society.

Barf. That is as appetizing as getting such a lecture from the Iranians or North Koreans, or having Vladimir Putin explain how to ensure that the economy is not riddled with corruption and abuses of power.

The European Union presents itself as a democratic institution that is promoting freedom, democracy, and shared prosperity in Europe and around the world.

Democratic? Its real leaders have been elected by no citizens, but chosen through an undemocratic process by the European Parliament, which is filled with representatives who absolutely loathe the technocrats who really run things. The European Commission is the equivalent of the Central Committee of the Soviet Union, only less democratic. The Parliament is a sham.

Freedom? All they do is regulate and fine people, meddle in every aspect of people’s lives, and use regulations to silence as many of their opponents as possible. When they talk of free speech, what they mean is that you are free to agree with them and praise them profusely.

Prosperity? European citizens, with the exception of the Nomenklatura, are, on average, poorer than Mississippians. And losing ground. The economies are in neutral or worse. Germany is deindustrializing.

🚨🇪🇺EU One Step Away from Total Control Over Free Speech!

Brussels seeks to force X to import content from EU-approved platforms and impose third-party “moderators” – NGOs, fact-checkers, and organizations funded by the EU and Soros, just like on Facebook.

Led by Ursula von der Leyen, these authoritarians also want to override X’s algorithm with so-called “public interest” systems: amplifying pro-EU content while suppressing dissenting voices.

Our best hope lies in X’s independence and Elon Musk’s determination to resist pressure and preserve the platform’s sovereignty.

Recall the heavy censorship on old Twitter: my previous account with over 20,000 followers was suspended simply for writing “Viva La France.”

This is just a part of the digital future they are trying to impose on all of us.

The EU is building a tech stack to moderate every social media platform, ban VPNs, push government propaganda, and to make everybody who uses the internet use a Digital ID.

As I wrote in my Sunday Smiles essay, the EU is a bizarre hybrid of the dystopias found in 1984 and Brave New World. Unlike 1984, the world is presented not as dark, but as a happy place if you are willing to do what you are told. You can pursue whatever pleasures you want, as long as you comply with your masters. Very Brave New World, where pleasure is used as a reward for compliance.

1984? It’s all the Newspeak, and the threats of dire punishments if you do not comply with what the technocrats want.

🚨🇪🇺The EU is literally mocking us while it kills freedom of speech and carries out mass censorship!

The official European Commission account on X shared a message calling for “freedom of speech” and “democracy” as the fundamental pillars of the EU itself.

However, the reality is quite different.

– In the EU, someone is arrested every hour for a social media post.

– The EU is abolishing anonymity on the internet for greater control.

– The EU is banning political parties.

– The EU is interfering in the elections of other sovereign countries.

– The EU is demanding that member states participate in and finance wars.

– The EU is importing migrants and replacing its own population.

Where is the freedom of speech and democracy here?

Where are the rights? Where is the future?

There is none – the EU must be abolished so that everyone can live freely.

It is a world that technocrats love, since it elevates the managerial class to the heights of power. The working class? Not so much, as is seen in the polling and the rising popularity of populist parties.

Which is why the EU and von der Leyen keep talking about the consequences of electing the wrong people.

We should be scared of what is happening in the EU because it is exactly what the technocrats here in the US are working towards, and that is one of the reasons why our establishment hates Trump with a passion. The Biden and Obama administrations worked diligently with the EU to circumscribe the rights of Americans as much as Europeans, and helped fund the institutions that work to destroy freedom.

🚨 EXTREMELY ALARMING: John Kerry at the WEF just said the quiet part out loud:

“Our First Amendment stands as a major block to the ability to hammer “disinformation” out of existence…

We need to win the right to govern so we’re free to implement change.”

They don’t want to debate ideas.

They want to delete them.

The elite’s war on free speech is now on full display.

They made enormous progress in circumscribing our freedoms, using the FBI, coercing social media companies, and boosting foreign NGOs as content moderators.

The EU is still working to silence us all, even here in America.

I cannot overstate how vital it is to fight back against efforts to circumscribe our freedom. I would rather have al Jazeera and Russia Today allowed to propagandize than use the power of government to silence everybody in order to silence them.

It is a very short distance between silencing RT and silencing everybody, and Europe has walked that path.

A soft totalitarianism is, in the end, hardly better than a hard one. It dehumanizes us at best, and as the arrests of dissenters show, it is a short path from soft totalitarianism to a harder version.
