ALL you need is love! No, I refer not to the loony campaign by the Labour MP for Derbyshire South to bring sex toys into Parliament to instigate ‘a summer of love’ but rather to the exhortations of a group who are now turning up to counter-protest our marches against the migrant camp in Crowborough.
Yes, of course the camp is still there and yes, at the last estimated count there were approaching 400 residents. So yes of course we are still protesting and last Sunday was the 26th such protest.
The protests have always been peaceful, sociable and well attended. Last Sunday there was an especially happy atmosphere: the sun was shining and people were as usual chatting, smiling and laughing. As we approached the end of our High Street we found that, as in recent weeks, there was a small group assembled at the side of the road.
Most were holding – or hiding behind – cardboard placards with crayoned messages. Typical messages were ‘Love is everywhere’, ‘Be kind’, ‘Standing for truth and hope’, ‘Love unity’, ‘Generosity has no sell-by date’. One chap was waving a large grubby EU flag.
As the marchers continued on their happy way accompanied by music, the placard holders stood silent and stony-faced, like spectres at the feast. Apparently not even the experience of signalling their virtue engendered warmth in them and they certainly weren’t showing much love for the marchers. They did share one thing with the marchers: they were all white and prevalently middle aged. There was some purple hair.
They may have provoked laughter on the marchers’ part but their crayoned contributions were just plain daft and achingly naive. Any attempt to rationalise their assertions is doomed to failure.
It is fair to assume that they comprised Lib Dems and Greens. It would be especially interesting to ask the latter group if they are at one with their leader Dave (known in some circles as Walter Titty). If so, are they sure about extending their love and kindness to Jewish people or gender critical people? They stand for truth and yet Dave has – like so many left wingers – been very economical with the truth relating to his past activities. He recently spoke with nostalgia of his time living in disused city properties for peppercorn rents. As things stand there now also seems to be a query relating to his payment of council tax wherever he is now living.
He clearly has different tastes in living quarters from the Greens’ co-deputy leader, Rachel Millward, who lives in a £1.5million gated property deep in the Sussex countryside. That could prove a bit tricky when it comes to her party’s desire for a wealth tax. That – and anti-Jewish sentiment. Ex-theologian (her words) Rachel was unusually lost for words during her recent appearance on BBC’s Question Time. When asked by a member of the audience where she thought racial hatred was coming from she descended into glottal-stopping silence and then turned to the equally self-satisfied Fiona Bruce for a get-out, which the latter obligingly provided.
As to wealth, I wonder what our virtuous cardboard carriers think of the extraordinary profits which are being acquired by all those involved in housing and providing assorted services to illegal migrants. The Crowborough camp is run by Clearsprings Ready Homes whose profits since 2019 are £183million. Is that really the best use of public money?
Equally, what are their thoughts on the vicious worldwide crime gangs who are making fortunes from sending people across the Channel, sometimes into slavery? Do they love them too? After all, they are foreign which seems to hold a premium when it comes to being loved by the virtuous. White lower class people come much further down the pecking order when it comes to lovability.
It would also be good to ask the EU flag-waver why he thinks the migrants head for the UK. Our camp residents will all have travelled through and spent time in his beloved EU. Why did they not stay there? What did they not like about it?
Labour has crowed about removing migrants from hotels – which does of course raise the question as to where they are moving them to. Are our cardboard warriors also relaxed about opportunists acquiring large property portfolios to get lucrative Government contracts for HMO usage? Does it not occur to them that, societal damage apart, this is decimating the rental market and feeding the whole migrant scam?
How would virtue-signallers respond to residents in poorer areas who suddenly find groups of unknown young men jettisoned into their midst? Would they simply extend their love to the migrants or might they summon up a smidgen for the existing residents?
Bit tricky, too, if you’re an old-style Green who doesn’t want the countryside, especially round you, to be covered in houses for our burgeoning population (miles of solar panels imported from China are OK because they’re saving the planet).
Here in Crowborough they are explicitly exhorting us to love and be kind to the young men in the camp. Fair to say that we are hardly being unkind to them. We note that they have a regular minibus service north to Crawley – a journey from which some fail to return. Leaving the camp and disappearing without trace is quite permissible. (Last year just 15 per cent of failed asylum seekers – the majority of whom arrived illegally – were deported.)
We also note that there is a bespoke service ferrying pharmaceuticals to the camp and residents to local dentists. Residents from the nominally alcohol-free camp have been observed buying quantities of alcohol from a supermarket.
Whether the camp residents return the love of the cardboard brigade is a moot point. There’s something ineffably arrogant and superior, not to speak of ignorant, about lumping all the migrants together into one loveable mass which must be patronised and patted on the head, so I suspect not.
I therefore suggest that our performative virtue-signallers save their bleeding hearts for the real villains of the piece, namely all those who are enabling and benefiting from the migrant scam – for such it is.
In the meantime the marchers of Crowborough do feel love – for their town, for their country and for their culture. Eat your hearts out, cardboard carriers!
