Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

Many, including Nigel Farage, want Starmer to stay as PM, the argument being that he’s the best possible recruitment for Reform. I too used to believe this. But I’ve changed my mind. In the King’s Speech, he’s put forward four proposals that will destroy the UK as the home of democracy.

First, the British people’s right to a jury trial will be removed. Cases that may result in up to three years’ imprisonment will now be tried by a judge alone. This from the country that gave the world the common law legal tradition and Magna Carta. There is no democratic mandate for this change.

Second, the Labour government confirmed in the King’s Speech that it will push ahead with plans to impose a system of Digital Identification. This will result in governments being able to control where people go, what they spend, what they think, and what they do. Again, there is no democratic mandate for this change.

Third, the Labour government is pressing ahead with plans to ‘align’ the UK with the European Union single market area in major areas of our economic life. More than seventeen million people voted against closer ties with the European Union at the Brexit referendum in 2016. Again, there is no democratic mandate for this change.

Fourth, and this one is mind-blowing: the countryside is too white. DEFRA wants more non-whites in the countryside. Reports decry rural spaces as ‘exclusive,’ ‘white middle-class’ and potentially ‘irrelevant’ to a multicultural society and call for tailored outreach to Muslim communities in urban centres such as Luton, revised marketing featuring greater diversity, multilingual materials and recruitment drives. Bang goes the English pub, already on its knees, and dog-walking. Presumably this will involve mosques in the countryside and vast picnic areas with home bought barbecues.

Does Herr Starmer deserve the title of left-wing fascist?
