Tennessee Conservative News Staff –

Three Rutherford County high school students are now facing charges after allegedly assaulting two teachers and two school resource officers (SRO) last week.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Seigel High School SRO Caleb Shadwick responded to the school cafeteria last Wednesday, where he witnessed a 16-year-old student repeatedly pushing a teacher.

Shadwick took the student to the ground and placed him in handcuffs as the student continued to resist.

As Shadwick attempted to escort the student to his office, a 17-year-old student pushed the officer from behind. Shadwick placed his hand on the student’s chest to keep distance between them.

The student then punched Shadwick multiple times in the face.

“Shadwick punched the student and pulled him close to stop the assault and sprayed him with pepper spray, ending the fight,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The 17-year-old was charged with felony assault on a first responder, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. The 16-year-old was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

In a separate incident at Seigel, another SRO Alex Weatherford responded to the cafeteria after receiving another report of a student assaulting a teacher, knocking him down. Weatherford attempted to calm the student but had to request backup from the Murfreesboro Police Department.

“Officers attempted to take (the student) into custody,” Weatherford said. “(The student) actively resisted, resulting in a total of five officers being required to physically place him into custody.”

The teacher obtained juvenile petitions to charge the student with assault.

All three students were transported to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.
