The Washington County School Board member who told a student she was “hot” at the Board’s April meeting has now been charged with assault in relation to the incident.
During the board’s April 2 meeting, board member Keith Ervin can be seen touching the arm of the student seated next to him and can be heard saying, “God, you’re hot. Do you know that? Where do you go to school at?”
After the public petitioned to have Ervin removed from his position, the Board censured him on April 8.

Since the incident, Ervin has stood by his explanation that the context of that interaction is not shown in the video clip that went viral and insists that his intention was simply to compliment the student on the way she asked questions throughout the meeting.
Court documents show that Ervin was indicted by a grand jury on May 11. He is charged with misdemeanor simple assault.
The school board released a statement in which they stated that they were aware of the charges against Ervin and reiterated their disapproval.
“The Board reiterates that Mr. Ervin’s actions do not reflect the standards, policies, or values of the school district. The Board remains committed to ensuring a safe, respectful, and appropriate environment for all students and staff,” the statement read in part.
Ervin, who is currently running for reelection to the school board, came in third place in the May 5 Republican primary for that seat.
