It is with sadness that I read of the ending of TCW which has been a valued Voice of Truth in recent years.
May I ask a final favour, that this hymn by the 19th century poet Matthew Bridges be shared through TCW with the many Christians who have contributed articles and comments. Perhaps best known for “Crown Him with many crowns,” Bridges was a poet who expressed in these words the feelings of both Catholic and Protestant.
The melody was dictated to me by the words, and all I had to do was write it down. Because of the unusual metre, this is a hymn which is less well known. I hope that it may be rescued from obscurity, and be a blessing to others as it is to myself.
