The Tennessee Conservative [By Paula Gomes] –
A bill that would authorize local school boards and governing bodies of charter schools to showcase foundational U.S. documents, as well as the Ten Commandments passed in a 15 to 4 vote in the House Education Committee on Tuesday.

House Bill 0047 (HB0047) sponsored by Representative Michael Hale (R-Smithville-District 40) was carried over from last year’s legislative session.
Other documents that could be displayed for students include the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Constitution of Tennessee.

The vote along party lines sends the bill on to the House Calendar and Rules Committee which has the power to determine whether or not a bill reaches the House floor for a final vote.
