The Tennessee Conservative [By David Seal] –

Congressman Tim Burchett (R-Tennessee, District 2) has been appointed Chair of the House Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Chairman James Comer of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee made the announcement on Friday, January 9th, 2026. The DOGE Subcommittee was previously chaired by Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia who recently resigned from congress.

Burchett campaigned on cutting government waste and fraud, returning hard-earned money to the taxpayers, and eliminating bureaucratic red tape. As chair of DOGE, he will have the opportunity to expand on those stated goals and make the federal government run more efficiently.

Local grassroots organizations in Tennessee praise Burchett for his actions and have high expectations for the DOGE Subcommittee under his leadership, expressed in the following commentary.

“All 16 organizations representing 28+ counties in the Tennessee Constitutional Grassroots Coalition (TCGC) are tremendously proud of our own Volunteer and Congressman Tim Burchett. We have faith that he will shake up the swamp, and we’re praying for his success and protection. We excitedly await an extreme reduction in the theft and waste of our hard-earned tax dollars, along with a lot of woodshed events, table flippings, come to Jesus meetings, and prosecutions with actual punishments befitting the crimes. Release the hound dogs, Tim! We’re glad we sent you there!” – said Tracey Smith, Chair, Tennessee Constitutional Grassroots Coalition (TCGC)

DOGE was established under President Trump, with help from Elon Musk, to reduce excessive government spending by President Biden and previous administrations.

“I am honored Chairman Comer has bestowed this great responsibility upon me. The American people are fed up with wasteful spending and fraud in the federal government. Under my leadership, I will eliminate reckless spending, slash unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, and investigate the rampant fraud and abuse in government.

When the American people elected President Trump in a landslide victory in 2024, he had a mandate from the voters to slash harmful spending and attack waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal bureaucracy. I am looking forward to being a partner to President Trump, Chairman Comer, and my colleagues across the aisle to restore trust in government.” – said Congressman Tim Burchett

“Our mission statement is to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of the federal government and all its agencies. We provide a check and balance on the role and power of Washington – and a voice to the people it serves. Genuinely good government requires a commitment to expose waste, fraud, and abuse. We ultimately report to hard working taxpayers to ensure their investment in government is spent effectively, efficiently, and transparently.

We identify problems, shine light on the situation, and propose reforms to prevent abuses from being repeated.” – DOGE Subcommittee Mission Statement
