The Tennessee Conservative [By David Seal] –
U.S Representative Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville, District 2) voted on Wednesday for a funding package to end the longest government shutdown in history, a shutdown that was blamed largely on Democrats holding the government hostage for increased spending.

Burchett provided details in his Media Release indicating that the resolution added no additional spending through January 30, 2026.
“Today, U.S. Congressman Tim Burchett voted in favor of a funding package to reopen the federal government. After 42 days of Senate Democrats holding the government and the American people hostage, the House has passed a bill to fully reopen the federal government.
The resolution includes no additional spending, maintaining current federal funding levels and extending funding through January 30th, 2026. It also includes three of the twelve appropriations bills for fiscal year 2026.
“This is a win for all Americans, including the most vulnerable among us who rely on federal safety net programs, as well as federal workers who protect our borders and ensure safe air travel,” said Rep. Burchett. “After 42 days, we have finally reached the end of the Democrat-led shutdown, and I hope we can now work together to pass the remaining appropriations bills in a timely manner that reduces the deficit.” – Tim Burchett Media Release

According to CBS News, 6 house Democrats broke rank with their caucus and voted in favor of the resolution. Those Democrats are considered moderates and represent competitive districts. “It also reverses federal layoffs during the shutdown, and includes three-year-long funding bills that cover military construction and the Department of Veterans Affairs; the Department of Agriculture and FDA; and operations for the legislative branch.” – CBS News, Wednesday November 113, 2025
Apparently, the six Democrats saw the writing on the wall and yielded to the many requests made by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana, District 4) who repeatedly called on Democrats to “do the right thing.”
President Trump signed the resolution into law on Wednesday following the House vote.
