CS Lewis – understanding prayer

THIS 15 minute audio clip is the only surviving audio from a series of C.S. Lewis BBC lectures on Christianity, originally broadcast under the title of ‘Right and Wrong: A Clue to the Meaning of the Universe’ during the Second World War. Lewis would eventually use the series to create his classic work, Mere Christianity, one of the most popular and beloved introductions to the concept of faith ever written.

In this surviving broadcast, he talks about prayer and counters people’s scepticism by reasoning its ‘logic’ or perhaps God’s logic, its essence and its power. It is a simple yet compelling explanation. Listening to this 80-odd-year-old recording that I happened to come across last week helped me and further committed me to prayer for Lent – from which, I admit with tiredness, a sense of defeat and an often over active mind, I had been lapsing in. I thought I would share it.
