A Giles County High School teacher was arrested Friday night and charged with solicitation of a minor.
The Giles County Sheriff’s Department arrested Steven Hughes after the Director of Schools notified them of “suspicious activity” discovered by other staff members between Hughes and a female student.
Hughes is listed as a teacher in the agriculture department at the school. According to the sheriff’s office, he had not been employed by the school for very long and he was not a resident of Giles County.
School officials say he is no longer employed with them, releasing the following statement to News 2, “Mr. Hughes no longer works for the Giles County School System. This is an ongoing investigation and no further comments can be made at this time.”
Hughes was booked into the Giles County Jail and was released Saturday morning on a $5000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 11.
