Give generously – two charities you might have missed

CHRISTMAS is a time for fun, festivities and families, but we should also be mindful of those less fortunate than ourselves. There are charities doing good work around the world – many unrecognised yet relied on to provide help and support where needed.

TCW has selected two such aid organisations, and ask that readers donate generously to support these compassionate enterprises.

St Greta’s

Taking its name from the 11th century Swedish Goddess of Hypocrisy, this small charity is known for its philanthropic works across the globe. Relying entirely on donations from wealthy individuals as well as a smattering of global benefactors, contributors can be assured that any money given will be immediately put to good use in enabling St Greta’s to continue its altruistic endeavours.

£5 can buy an anti-fascist badge

£10 will enable the purchase of a keffiyeh

£20 will allow someone marooned on a boat to enjoy a truffle infused artisanal sourdough sandwich with cheese, prosciutto and arugula, and drizzled with balsamic glaze.

£50 will help purchase flights to and from Israel

£100 will go towards building a flotilla to help deliver aid where it’s most needed – not currently available in Nigeria, Cameroon or Mozambique.

£500 will buy fifty gallons of green dye to tip into rivers, where it can make a real difference to the local population.

Rachel’s Foundation

A new charity in the UK which in a very short time has made a huge impression on the public’s consciousness. Operating from a cramped office located in central London, its eponymous founder is the charismatic, multi-talented and universally admired Rachel Reeves.

As someone in possession of a cervix, she has experienced first-hand the rampant misogyny that permeates every stratum of society, yet through hard work and diligence she has triumphed. Her career as CEO of a global banking network and later as Chief Economist to the Treasury have given her a unique insight into how finance works, most importantly how money can be spent wisely to deliver maximum benefit in the aid sector.

In a matter of months she has rapidly expanded Rachel’s Foundation and effectively doubled its fundraising. Giving generously to those struggling to make ends meet lies at the core of this charity. Recipients speak appreciatively of the real difference a substantial monthly bank transfer can make.

Mr B J of west London sums it up: ‘With nine children to take care of, life has been one unending struggle. Until I received help from Rachel’s Foundation, deciding whether we eat or heat was a daily dilemma. Now things are much easier financially, it might be possible to fulfil our dream of having twenty kids – thanks, Rachel!’

£20 will enable us to supply a much-needed packet of cigarettes

£50 can offer a lifeline month-long subscription to Sky TV

£100 can give one family the chance to win the lottery and purchase vital supplies of lager

£500 could purchase one essential bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild 2006.
