A video appeared online yesterday showing Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei striding purposefully into some kind of military command center to stare at a map.
In the video, as Mojtaba Khamenei enters the command centre room, a large picture on the screen shows coordinates and location of Israel’s Dimona nuclear plant. The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, widely known as the Dimona nuclear site, is situated in Israel’s southern Negev Desert. Thus, it made a subtle threat of hitting the Dimona site in case of any attack by the US. The video ends with a message: ‘News is yet to come’.
Here’s the video:
🇮🇷🇮🇱 Iran’s AI-war now features a video claiming to show Mojtaba Khamenei entering a command room and overseeing operations.

As you can probably tell just by looking at it, this video is not real but was generated with AI. The fact that he never speaks is a giveaway.
A Twitter handle called ‘GBX_Press’ was the first one to share the video with a caption stating that Iran has released it. Even as it went viral on X with multiple handles sharing it, no verified Iranian official or state media account (IRIB, IRGC channels, Khamenei.ir, etc.) posted or confirmed it. Though, many news handles ran the video as “first video of Mojtaba Khamenei,” they quickly labeled it as AI-generated propaganda. Grok said that video is 100 per cent AI generated.
In reality, no one has seen Mojtaba Khamenei since the airstrike that killed his father. He has issued a couple of statements via state TV, but of course there’s no telling who wrote those. His last statement (or a statement claiming to be from him) was nearly a week ago. Now there are fresh reports that Khamenei is actually in a hospital and unconscious.
Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is incapacitated and receiving medical treatment in the holy city of Qom, according to an intelligence assessment which suggests he is not capable of running the country.
A diplomatic memo understood to be based on American and Israeli intelligence and shared with Gulf allies suggests that Khamenei, the son of the killed long-time leader Ali Khamenei, is unconscious and being treated for a “severe” medical condition…
“Mojtaba Khamenei is being treated in Qom in a severe condition, unable to be involved in any decision making by the regime,” it reads.
Some claims have suggested Khamenei is in a coma and while these reports don’t directly state that, they seem to allow for that possibility. If that’s the case then someone else is actually running Iran, likely the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC may be using the unconscious man as a figurehead for their own messages, like the video above which is clearly a threat directed at Israel.
The other outstanding question is whether or not Iran will be able to bury the former supreme leader. Preparations for a new burial site have been underway in Qom, but holding a public funeral which high level members of the regime, including his son, would be expected to attend, creates an obvious problem for the regime.
While the Iranian government said that a state funeral for the elder Khamenei had been postponed because of “anticipation of unprecedented turnout”, questions over the delay have arisen, given the Shia tradition to bury the dead immediately after their passing. Wednesday will mark 40 days since Khamenei’s death on February 28, which would mark the end of the traditional mourning period in Shia Islam.
Iran doesn’t seem to have responded to the reports so far, but there’s an obvious way to put these claims to rest. Khamenei could make a public appearance somewhere where everyone can see his current condition. If we haven’t seen him at all in nearly two months, there’s probably a good reason for that.
