Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

I have tried to lodge this complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) but the barriers seem to be challenging.

I wonder if any TCW readers might have a clue as to how to gain access to the system and submit this complaint:

In the link below, Orsted claims that a 1.2GW wind turbine will supply 1million homes with electrical energy. But when wind intensity is near zero, it will not supply any homes and the company seems to be contravening the Trade Descriptions Act.

A 1.2GW wind turbine would supply 1kW of power each to 1.2million homes when the wind speed is between 14 and 25 m/s (31 and 56 mph).

But with a capacity factor typically of

In fact a 1.2MW wind farm will need 1.2MW of back-up power to supply more than 1million homes when wind speed is at or near to zero. Surely the advert should make that clear and that the cost of back-up power must be included in any cost comparisons.

Please could you confirm that this is correct and that wind turbine manufacturers must clarify these points in their adverts.
