Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

SOME of my mother’s previous generation family were distinguished lawyers in London or the Commonwealth.  When I was about to go to University in 1950 I considered applying to read Law but opted for Medicine.

Our Prime Minister previously held a very important and prestigious legal appointment. I now read that he had prior knowledge of, and agreed to, the false premises on which the recent Budget was formulated.

What a sad commentary on how far the values have fallen for our legal profession and the great Offices of State, although lies from politicians are now almost to be expected.

Over many years I’ve watched with dismay the falling standards and ethics of my profession (due at least in part to a changing of policies for selection to medical school that happened in the late 1960s). Could those of the legal profession have fallen even further?
