Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor,

Come the end of every year two things happen without fail: as well as having Christmas, the Met Office and BBC make a big thing about climate change and declare the year just gone has been the hottest ever!

This time it was no different. Almost with glee the BBC proudly announced that 2025 had been the hottest since records began. However nerds like me, with thermometers placed 70in up on the north-facing side of our garden sheds, can prove this is a lie.

Since experiencing the cold, dreary summer of 2023, then being told by the BBC it had been the hottest summer ever, conveniently ignoring 1976 which was certainly the hottest summer in many of our lifetimes, from October that year I began taking three daily temperature readings.  As soon as I am up and ready I trudge up my garden to the shed to take a reading, then at midday and again at 5 pm. I update these readings on to my spreadsheets and produce daily, weekly and monthly averages.

With two full years of readings, temperatures are incredibly stable, so much so that the yearly averages for 2024 and 2025 were identical at 54 deg F – so how could the year just gone have been the hottest?

I hope others will take up the challenge to do the same as me; that way our readings can be collated nationally and a real challenge to the global warmists made with truly independent data, rather those in my own small corner of the Midlands.
