Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

The former Greek Finance Minister, Yanis Varoufakis, has recently released a number of videos on YouTube in which he outlines his concerns about the future of the EU. He highlights the fact that in 1990 the EU represented 25 per cent of global GDP but that is now down to 14 per cent and likely to fall lower. While none of the economies of member states gives Varoufakis confidence his main concern is the precarious state of the German economy. He highlights that for the first time in its 87-year history Volkswagen is planning to close one of its German factories and relocate to Mexico, and the giant chemical engineering company BASF is developing a factory in China which will be powered by Russian gas. Meanwhile, despite this, our ‘Dear Leader’ is making moves to have closer links with the EU.

Having, thankfully, escaped the sinking ship in 2020, the ‘Officer in Charge’ of our lifeboat, Starmer, is now planning to re-board the Titanic just before it finally goes under.
