Letter of the day – The Conservative Woman

Dear Editor

THERE is a lot of attention in the media and some on TCW to ‘broken Britain’ and even the possibility of civil strife.

While we have any number of keyboard activists with their heroic visions and courageous words, the number among us willing to man the barricades and ‘go over the top’ is minimal and the chances of serious unrest remote.

We are a nation of apathy. We shrug our shoulders, moan, groan and display our discontent on the internet. Nearly half of us could not even bother to vote at the last election.

We might do a bit of marching, a bit of shouting, wave a flag or two. But to think we are going to do any fighting in the streets is pure fantasy.

There will be no revolution in England. We will muddle along. We no longer care enough about anything. Despite the torrent of words of condemnation of the Government, nothing will change all that much.

Our apathy is matched by our laziness. You often see some metric showing how we have fallen behind in productivity against virtually every other nation.

The level of absence from work is truly astonishing. Yet ‘lack of investment’ or ‘lack of training’ remain the stock responses.  No, we are just bone idle as a nation.
