Dear Editor
I’m sure many readers will be relieved that the Guide Association has decided to obey the Supreme Court’s decision that boys pretending to be girls will no longer be accommodated in the country’s largest association catering for girls up to age 14 specialising, in their own words, in building ‘teamwork and camping’.
But at the same time they will be puzzled as to why those who have managed to inveigle themselves in are to be given until September to leave. In other words, to enjoy one more whole summer of sharing accommodation and tents with genuine pubescent teenage girls.
The decision has been given a cautious and often reluctant acceptance by many politicians, afraid of offending the active campaign groups by expressing approval. Largely taking the view that, following the court’s decision, the Association had no choice but to comply.
But it occurs to me that the GA is delaying the implementation as long as possible in the hope that an appeal by the activist groups will be successful in rescinding the decision some time between now and September.
Because if the GA really wanted to make this return to sanity, they would never have gone down the wrong road in the first place.
