Dear Editor
The basis for paying huge sums of money to France in connection with the small boat migrants defies any normal kind of logic.
France has already been given huge sums of money, supposedly to reduce the number of migrants making the crossings, but the number is increasing.
The media observes and reports no serious attempts by the French to prevent crossings. France has an obvious motive for facilitating the crossings because once the migrant leaves France he is no longer a threat to or a cost to France. There is no logical reason why France should want to prevent the crossings.
The only logical reason for this absurd ‘deal’ which occurs to me is thinly disguised corruption. This money will end up in someone’s pockets and I doubt that that someone will be a French gendarme. More likely it will be a ‘friend’ of a politician or civil servant. It beggars belief that anyone in their right mind would authorise such a payment unless they have a clear motive, and that motive is clearly not the reduction of the number of small boat migrants.
Follow the money! The migrant trade is a Golden Goose for a huge number of not exactly patriotic people in Britain and their friends in France. It is not in the financial interests of anyone in power to put an end to this business, and it is just that, a very lucrative business!
Meanwhile, migrants continue to die in the waters of the English Channel. More blood on the inhuman politicians’ hands.
