A new bill has been introduced that would ease a little bit of financial burden for parents with a new baby.

House Bill 0784 (HB0784), sponsored by State Representative Greg Martin (R-Hamilton County-District 26), would exempt retail sales of infant formula, diapers, and baby wipes from the sales and use tax.

Martin introduced a similar bill during the last legislative session, with State Senator Adam Lowe (R-Calhoun-District 1) signing on as sponsor of the sister Senate bill. It stalled in the Finance, Ways, and Means committees in both legislative bodies.

At that time, Martin said, “I know how expensive diapers and other products can be. This legislation will ease the financial burden on parents and allow them devote more money to their children. We must do all we can to assist new parents, and keeping more of their hard-earned money is a good start.”

The legislation would take effect as of July 1 if it passes.
