Gavin Newsom’s communications staff is a wonder to behold.
For months now, they have been pursuing a strategy to mock Trump’s style of tweets/truths/X-posts, presumably because they believe Trump’s success is driven by being outrageous. And perhaps it is to a great extent, although, ironically, it is that style that Democrats claim is so objectionable about The Donald.
For whatever reason, Trump’s insult comic style works, even if it makes some of us cringe. Newsom’s doesn’t, except perhaps with die-hard Newsom folks. Perhaps because they just don’t understand how voters think.

When Johnson went on Fox News to discuss the massive fraud being discovered in California, Newsom’s people came up with what they consider the perfect comeback: “You’re gay, and your staff is too.” It’s the perfect 6th-grade taunt.
Johnson actually isn’t gay—he is married with children—but several popular conservative podcasters are, such as Dave Rubin and Jillian Michaels, suggesting the stigma attached to being gay is in the past and has been for quite a while. No matter, though.
What’s striking about the jab is that Newsom’s staff thinks this is an insult, and one that will successfully distract from the fact that the governor showers fraudsters with taxpayer cash to the tune of billions of dollars.
Obviously, according to Newsom, that’s no big deal. Giving money to organized crime organizations looks no different to them than handing it to NGOs, which operate on the same principle anyway.
But being gay and Republican—now THAT’S shameful! Much worse, right?
It’s the same line of attack used against Lindsey Graham, whom Democrats often refer to as “Lady G.”
“You’re gay!” It’s funny because a lot of Republicans dislike Graham, but as far as I can tell, none of that hostility has to do with his purported homosexuality. He regularly gets reelected, as did Tim Scott when rumors of his unconventional sexual preferences were common.
Democrats like to pretend that they are far more tolerant than Republicans, and perhaps they are when it comes to moral degenerates. But when it comes to any conservative black or gay person, their hatred and tendency to use slurs is shocking.
Think, again, of Newsom’s pitch to black voters: “I’m as stupid as you are!” Democrats do this all the time—literally. A Yale study of how Democrats and Republicans talk to black people shows that Republicans treat them as equals, while Democrats talk down to them by pretending to be less competent than they are.
Dupree and her co-author, Susan Fiske of Princeton University, began by analyzing the words used in campaign speeches delivered by Democratic and Republican presidential candidates to different audiences over the years. They scanned 74 speeches delivered by white candidates over a 25-year period. Approximately half were addressed to mostly-minority audiences—at a Hispanic small business roundtable discussion or a black church, for example. They then paired each speech delivered to a mostly-minority audience with a comparable speech delivered at a mostly-white audience—at a mostly-white church or university, for example. The researchers analyzed the text of these speeches for two measures: words related to competence (that is, words about ability or status, such as “assertive” or “competitive”) and words related to warmth (that is, words about friendliness, such as “supportive” and “compassionate”).
Warmth, related to intentions towards others, and competence, related to the ability to carry out those intentions, are two fundamental dimensions of how we see others and portray ourselves in social interactions. Stereotypical portrayals of black Americans generally show them as being less competent than their white counterparts, but not necessarily less friendly or warm, Dupree explains.
The team found that Democratic candidates used fewer competence-related words in speeches delivered to mostly minority audiences than they did in speeches delivered to mostly white audiences. The difference wasn’t statistically significant in speeches by Republican candidates, though “it was harder to find speeches from Republicans delivered to minority audiences,” Dupree notes. There was no difference in Democrats’ or Republicans’ usage of words related to warmth. “It was really surprising to see that for nearly three decades, Democratic presidential candidates have been engaging in this predicted behavior.”
Democrats want client groups, and for all their talk about equity and diversity, they actually have contempt for their clients. This comes out when they accuse Linsey Graham or Benny Johnson of being gay, and when they throw insults at black conservatives, calling them “house slaves” or “house ni**ers.”
They don’t respect the people whom they claim to represent; they pander. And when the pandering doesn’t work, they lash out.

Democrats ooze a sense of moral superiority, and their embrace of “compassion” and “tolerance” is all for show.
Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
