A resolution designating the month of July as a time of prayer and fasting for the “physically able and spiritually inclined” to seek “God’s hand of mercy and healing on Tennessee” passed by an 8-2 vote in the House Naming and Designating Committee on Monday.

House Joint Resolution 51 (HJR0051) is being sponsored by Rep. Monty Fritts (R-Kingston-District 32).

“I am grateful to move HJR0051 forward with a positive recommendation to the State and Local Committee,” Rep. Fritts told Tennessee Conservative News. “I believe it is important to seek Almighty God’s hand of blessing in our state. As our Founders sought His help, I think it is important to seek His help today. If we are to pass on a free and prosperous state to posterity, it will be accomplished only with His hand of blessing.”

Republican Representatives Jody Barrett, Rush Bricken, Gino Bulso, Monty Fritts, Tom Leatherwood, Pat Marsh, and Todd Warner voted in favor of HJR0051.

They were joined by Democrat Representative Vincent Dixie.

Democrat Representatives Aftyn Behn and Justin J. Jones voted against the resolution.

HJR0051 has been referred to the House State and Local Government Committee but has not been put on the schedule for consideration at the time of this article’s publication.
