The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
For the third year in a row, the “Don’t Tread on Me” specialty license plate has come in as the most popular option among Tennesseans.
The bright yellow plate features the coiled snake from the Gadsden Flag, which was used during the Revolutionary War, along with the phrase “Don’t Tread on Me.”
The tag was introduced in 2017 as a fundraiser to benefit the Friends of Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton.
According to the group’s treasurer, John Kubenka, the money raised has allowed the organization to complete repairs to the Carter Mansion, purchase equipment, and improve park landscaping.
According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue, 38,378 of the specialty tags were purchased between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. The plate brought in $657,700 for the group this past year.
Coming in as the second most popular specialty plate in the state is the all-black plate from The Millennial Debt Foundation. The organization was created in 2019 by current Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp with the goal of pushing for an end to the country’s national debt.
The plate was introduced in 2022 and was purchased by 36,100 individuals this past year, bringing in over $500,000 for the organization.
