Newly filed court documents show that House Speaker Cameron Sexton is on the list to testify in an upcoming trial against former House Speaker Glen Casada.

The filing, submitted last Tuesday, states that Sexton will give testimony regarding the “requirements of the Postage and Printing Allowance” given to state legislators. According to The Tennessean, Sexton has previously stated that he was a “factual witness” for the prosecution in the case.

Prosecutors allege that in 2019, Casada “conspired to profit” off of the allowance by encouraging state officials to use Phoenix Solutions, a consulting firm founded by Chief of Staff Cade Cothren. Casada would provide “bribes and kickbacks” from the profits. Legislators were also pressured to use two other consulting firms run by Cothren and former State Representative Robin Smith.

Court documents show that the three companies were paid nearly $52,000 from the allowance, and Casada and Smith were given over $35,000 in illegal kickbacks.

Casada has long claimed that Sexton was one of three legislative sources who provided information to the prosecution and has pushed for courts to reveal the names of all three. That request was denied on Monday by U.S. District Judge Eli Richardson.

Sexton is one of about fifteen witnesses that the prosecution plans to call. They have not released the names of all of those individuals.
