L-R front Tulip Saddiq, Aunty, Putin
A while back on August 5th did a piece on the international quality of oligarchy tracing our ruling classes and clans between countries and continents and chose to focus on the fragrant Tulip Saddiq in “Britain’s Foreign Oligarch Connections”, where she as a British member of Parliament and Minister for The City of London is presently engaged as an anti-corruption minister.
Oligarchs do not simply exist in aristocratic Victorian Royalty or even just in grubby old Europe as I mentioned the connections between Kennedy and Bhutto, another oligarchic Pakistani family, in June 6 2012.
The currant concerns are mounting about Tulip and her appropriateness of being an Anti-corruption Minister in Britain’s cabinet. I felt an update is in order.
Tulip Saddiq comes of an old, long established, political family, far more established and entrenched than many who grace the House of Lords for she is Muslim aristocracy, zemindars all, from Bangladesh.
The tree above which I stress is merely a brief synopsis of her families’ political connections takes her line from her grandfather, Mujib Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Bangladesh through eight further generations back to the days before Mughal rule in the eighteenth century.
A number of sources have their concerns about our Minister .
The family had a major influence on the Political party known as the Arvami League who incidentally were accused of using their money and influence to support Siddig in her run for Member of Parliament (Source Channel 4 on 25/9).
Politico on August 6, investigated Siddiq’s stance on the former Bangladeshi Government and her relationship with it in particular to speculation on her ministerial position. It was noted they have not received an answer as yet.
One might well also remember that Tulip was already under investigation for failing to register income from a flat in London with Parliament. Is this where she helped park her now ousted aunty Sheika Hussain the former Bangladeshi Prime Minister given the bums rush this summer?.
But the big question has only arisen since Aunty came over. Tulip has been named in a Bangladeshi Corruption Probe (BBC 19 December). The Guardian (23 December) reports claims she helped broker corrupt deals with Russian nuclear plants worth $10 billion. At the top of this post is a photograph of Tulip with her family and Putin at the signing of the deal which is suspected of being corrupt.
Sky News claimed $5 billion or £3.9 billion were “siphoned off in collusion with Russian Officials”.
And to add salt to it all the Hindustan Times wellies in with specifically claiming “ Husainy Wazid and Tulip Siddiq the Treasury Minister of the UK embezzled $5 billion from the over prices $12.65 billion nuclear power project through off-shore bank accounts in Malaysia.”
They did not just stop there. “The Anti-Corruption Commission said it has also begun another against Husinet Sajeeb Ahmeed Wazed, Tulip Siddiq and Hasina’s sister Sheikh Rehem regarding alleged corruption amounting to 80.000 crore Bangladeshi Taki in nine projects including the power plant.”
Many questions for dear Tulip to be answering. Can she continue as an anti-corruption minister whilst this continues? Indeed, questions should be asked about the Labour Party’s vetting process. And of course, why on earth Starmer chose this dud.
Expect this to run.
