ON NOVEMBER 30, 2023, three eminent American climate scientists – Richard Lindzen Professor of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, Emeritus Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, William Happer, Professor of Physics, Emeritus Princeton University and Steven Koonin, University Professor, New York University – made a submission to the Court of Appeals in The Hague, the Netherlands, to support Shell against an organisation called Milieudefensie which claimed that the oil giant would be breaking the law if it failed to reduce its CO2 emissions by 45 per cent by 2030. Mileudefensie lost the case, appealed and lost again. The scientists’ 27-page submission can be read here. It is cogently and lucidly written and not loaded with jargon, charts and graphs.
The amazing feature of this judgement is that it was made at all. In my 15 years (at least) of studying everything I can lay my hands on about climate change, I have never come across a climate change discussion where any sceptical viewpoint was even permitted, let alone discussed.
That this has happened is because the judges in The Hague had no choice but to do their job properly and pay attention to the defence argument. This meant that they had to read the submission, which proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was innocent.
It is reasonable to expect that this ground-breaking case result would catch the attention of the mainstream media and given wide exposure. But no, the MSM is entirely captive of the man-made global warming scam. So it never appeared anywhere except in the mostly silenced organisations that reject the scam.
More recently, on January 26 this year an organisation called Climate Change Dispatch published the results of scientifically valid experiments that proved beyond doubt that CO2 cannot cause global warming. This is another clearly written article blowing away the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) catastrophe scare. But of course it can be found only in online publications. Reports such as these would never be accepted for publication by so-called authoritative journals such as Nature or Scientific American.
There are a great many organisations, website producers and podcasters who constantly reject the AGW scam: the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) founded by the late Lord Nigel Lawson; the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT); The Heartland Institute; Watts Up With That; TCW’s own weekly columnist Paul Homewood, and many more.
But in spite of the best efforts of these think tanks, the scientists and the few brave sceptical politicians who support them, the Western world remains in thrall to the AGW crisis narrative and largely uncritical of ‘renewables’.
On March 28 the Australian revealed one such project that will occupy 20,000 square kilometers of prime agricultural land in New South Wales hosting 11 wind farms, 27 solar farms, six battery storage units and a camp for 6,000 non-local workers. The projust works started by bulldozing 650 trees that lined a road to the site during the bird-nesting season, ignoring an alternative route that had been proposed.
In the UK just last week Ed Miliband overruled locals to approve Britain’s biggest solar farm yet, a major development risks changing ‘the very nature of Lincolnshire’, locals, likening it to Chernobyl, warn. The Springwell Solar Farm is the 25th large solar farm approved by Labour since 2024 using planning powers that allow ministers to overrule communities. It will cover seven square miles of farmland in solar panels – an area 10 times greater than London’s Hyde Park – and affect 10 local villages and thousands of residents.
What better illustrations of the many organisations, businesses and individuals – thanks to Government intervention – making so much money out of the scam that they will go on promoting it? Wind and solar farm operators just love the huge subsidies Ed Miliband is hosing at them. Ed Miliband’s net zero blitz led to a record number of solar panels being installed across the UK last year – a total of 262,000 solar installations in the UK in 2025, reflecting a 37pc increase year-on-year and the highest recorded total since 2011.
They include the Fenwick solar farm, 1,300 acres, and the Hooton Pagnell solar farm, 232 acres, in Ed Miliband’s Doncaster North constituency. Resident Matthew Carlton asked Miliband if there was anywhere he wouldn’t approve a solar farm. Carlton said he replied that the climate emergency was so severe that he would put them almost anywhere.
Researchers have only to insert the words ‘climate emergency’ into their grant applications and the money is almost guaranteed. Danish, European and Chinese wind turbine and solar panel manufacturers have an almost insatiable demand if they keep on pushing the scam.
Just to take one example: The ultra-warmist Grantham Institute received almost £36million in 2024-25 from a huge list of donors including the British government, the World Bank, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and many more.
If highly intelligent and educated people can espouse such absurd solutions to AGW as hydrogen fuel, carbon capture and storage, exporting solar power 2,650 miles from Alice Springs in central Australia to Singapore (since abandoned), sucking CO2 directly out of the atmosphere with giant fans passing the air though CO2 absorbers, eating less meat, stopping travel and lots more fatuous idea we’ve all been hearing, suggests that they sincerely believe in AGW. So they have been effectively brainwashed by the incessant attribution of every weather event, be it heatwaves or snowstorms, to climate change and the deliberate erasure of any sceptical viewpoint. (That conveniently fits with a huge business opportunity.)
As of early 2026, Australia’s onshore fuel stocks are critically low, often hovering around 25–36 days of consumption for petrol and diesel, well below the International Energy Agency (IEA) 90-day requirement. The rest of Australia’s reserves are actually held in – wait for it – the United States! Furthermore our eight refineries have been reduced to two, with most of our refined products coming from Singapore. The Middle East war has already caused huge price increases at the pump and many filling stations have run out completely. The government’s answer? Doubling down on renewables.
Will the multitude of deluded warmists still be shouting about their beliefs when, not so far off, the West will be starved of power and transport plus all the 6,000-odd products derived from hydrocarbons critically including fertilizers and most medicines?
I most likely will be pushing up daisies before then so I’m not worried for myself, but I am worried for my sons, and especially my grandsons.
