ADVANCE UK’s position on energy, like previous policy announcements, fundamentally distinguishes it from the political establishment. In just about all policy areas, the country needs a 180-degree change in direction. Energy policy is the same.
Our policy is not rooted in ideology but in the economic and security interests of the British people.
The current statutory framework, targeting Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, and international obligations which accompany it, have placed a wholly unnecessary and unbearable burden on British households, businesses and industry.
The end of mankind is not threatened by an impending manmade climate catastrophe. And, even if it were, Net Zero would not be the answer.
Elevated energy costs represent one of the most significant structural challenges facing the British economy. The erosion of our manufacturing base, the pressure on household incomes and the declining competitiveness of British industry are all a consequence of the flawed Net Zero ideology which has for decades trumped the national interest. We would end that.
Our draft energy policy sets out our intention to repeal that legislation, to withdraw from the international frameworks so harmful to British interests and to abolish the green levies that have driven up the cost of energy to unsustainable levels.
In its place we propose a comprehensive domestic energy strategy founded upon the principle of national energy security. We would support the development of oil, gas, coal, nuclear, hydroelectric and shale energy production where economically and technically viable. Our objective is to ensure that Britain has access to cheap, abundant and reliable energy for generations to come. A security that is determined in Westminster, not delegated to supranational institutions.
This policy has been published in draft, as have all our other policies, knowing that the best policy can only emerge through scrutiny. We therefore invite members, industry representatives and the wider public to examine our energy policy proposals which I launched on my Fearless podcast on YouTube last week.
I talk through and explain our policy proposals in detail with accompanying slides in the video below. You can stop and start to read the slide which containa considerable amount of detail
I start with a breakdown of the irrationality and punitive nature of Net Zero taxation, the inequity of the benefits paid to the ‘renewables’ against the penalties imposed on fossil fuel companies that stop North Sea exploration. I go on to detail the policies we need to end and reverse the decades of ideologically motivated policies, the legislation we will repeal and associated deregulation – including abolishing the planned ban on petrol and deisel cars, cancelling the green levy, VAT on fuel and dissolving Ed Miliband’s Great British Energy wheeze. Finally I detail our plans for reviving our energy output and industry – green lighting nuclear and hydro power projects and back up shale exploration. Plus a return to coal mining and coal fired power stations.
This above is just the barest outline of the detailed policy presentation below. So please take time to watch it for all the important ground it covers. Please also engage with the party to challenge any assumptions and to contribute to refining this and all our policies ahead of the next general election – the thinking and accompanying policies that are so critical to the restoration of this country.
