Chris Murphy Doubles Down on Defending Iranian Propaganda – HotAir

This morning I wrote about Chris Murphy’s X post calling Iranian ships blowing through the American blockade “awesome.”

I predicted that in response to the backlash, he would call his post a “joke” that was misunderstood, and I was exactly right about that. He is now claiming that the post was intended as sarcasm—a commentary on the fact that the Trump administration was failing to make the blockade that Murphy opposes even work.

It’s just another example of a Trump failure, right?

Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that Murphy WAS being sarcastic. That actually doesn’t let him off the hook, because promoting the original post about which he was being sarcastic was…promoting Iranian propaganda.

The claim was as false as Iran’s AI images of F-35s being shot down. If Chris Murphy had posted one of those images and used it to trash Donald Trump as a reckless failure getting our best aircraft destroyed, it would be no different.

Now, in defending himself against the original criticism, Murphy has doubled down on promoting the false claim that Iran is breaking our blockade, echoing the Iranian’s claim that the United States military is incompetent and that Iran is outsmarting the best military in the world.

Anything to “own” Donald Trump, right?

That the claim is “debunked” is utterly beside the point, as I have written several times. The idea is out there, planted in people’s minds, and any information contradicting what the Democrats’ designated liars say is dismissed.

In fact, the very act of debunking the claim reinforces it in their minds. They hear the claim again from a “trusted” source, see that it is being challenged by “far right” sources, so it gets even more firmly planted in their minds.

Murphy gains no credibility with people outside his base, but gets even more firm loyalty to people driven solely by the emotional anti-Trump rage that they feel.

It really is that simple. There is a very large cohort of people who will believe anything as long as it feeds their rage, and Democrats like Chris Murphy know that and feed them a steady diet of lies to stoke the emotional highs these people feel.

These people LITERALLY BELIEVED that Donald Trump paid Russian hookers to pee on a bed to disrespect Obama.

They believed it. They believed every single hoax, and still do. They believed that Ivermectin was “horse paste.” They believe every hoax, because they are designed to feel their rage.

Chris Murphy’s “explanation” that his post was meant as sarcasm is no explanation at all. He is still spreading lies. The Iranians did not break the blockade, and he is doubling down on that claim.

It’s what his supporters want. It’s what they need. They want and need Iran to win this war because it will harm Donald Trump.

Ugly, ugly people.
