A Clarksville teacher has resigned as an investigation remains ongoing after he admitted to showing nude photos of himself to a student.
Matthew Vedder, a now-former science teacher at Montgomery Central High School, submitted his resignation on Thursday, April 9.

Vedder, who is married to district Superintendent Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder, is under investigation for showing nude photographs of himself on his phone to a 17-year-old student. The 52-year-old admitted to investigators that he showed the pictures, but he claimed it was an accident.
He was initially placed at an alternate worksite off-campus as the investigation moved forward. Now that he has resigned, he forfeits any due process for termination, according to state law.
School spokesperson Anthony Johnson stated, “Based on what was officially reported to CMCSS by law enforcement on March 9, even an accidental display of inappropriate content could have resulted in disciplinary action up to and including charges of dismissal for conduct unbecoming.”
The state school board has already received the initial report and will receive the final report at the conclusion of the investigation.
The resignation also allows school board members to speak on the incident.
State Representative Aron Maberry (R-Clarksville-D68), who is also a member of the school board, said, “What occurred was inexcusable, shocking, repulsive, and may ultimately be deemed criminal. I can speak for myself only officially, but I will say with confidence that every member of our school board was outraged by his actions.”
Maberry also noted the difficulty faced by Luna-Vedder in the situation:
“She did not learn of this incident until the day law enforcement arrived at her home, and she immediately reported it to DCS upon discovering it. I have personally sat with her, asked difficult questions, and it is clear to me she is a victim in this situation as well,” he stated.
Law enforcement will continue their investigation to determine what charges, if any, will be filed against Vedder.
