Tennessee Conservative News Staff –

A Johnson City doctor charged with rape last year had his medical license suspended by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners after allegations of sexual misconduct were filed by two more victims.

The Board suspended the license of 69-year-old Dr. Atif Atyia, stating that the “situation imperatively requires emergency action” to maintain public safety as they await the state’s formal disciplinary proceedings.

Last year, Atyia had his authorization to prescribe Schedule II drugs suspended in conjunction with the same alleged incident of rape.

The order released by the Board also notes that two additional victims have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct in addition to the February 2025 incident that led to rape charges against Atyia.

One of the allegations stems from an April 2021 appointment. A patient says that Atyia performed an unnecessary exam that was sexual in nature while questioning her about her sex life.

The other was filed by a woman who says that in 2014, while she was a college student doing a clinical rotation, Atyia sexually assaulted her in an exam room

The allegations also led to Atyia’s license to practice in Virginia to be suspended in February.

He is scheduled to be in court on April 24 for criminal motions on his rape and sexual battery charges.
