Letter of the week: The Monster Raving Loony Party is the answer

Dear Editor

May I suggest that the remedy for the current political chaos is that the result of the General Election we most heartily wish to be held this summer would be as follows:

The Monster Raving Loony Party to win by a landslide, gaining perhaps 500 seats.

Now I understand that a Monster Raving Loony Party rule is that any Parliamentary candidate who does not lose their deposit is immediately expelled from the party.

The resulting 500 Independent Members of Parliament could then Re-form themselves into the All Knight Party, and make King Arthur an honorary President. (This would be done posthumously, of course.)

In this way we could perhaps see an end to the chaos in our government and a return to orderly and peaceful governance.

With apologies for making this suggestion by e-mail rather than inscribed upon parchment,

I remain your humble servant,

Robert Higginson

A prank in poor taste

Dear Editor

Did anybody else feel uncomfortable watching the ladies provocatively remove their temporary burqas on stage at Saturday’s Unite The Kingdom rally?

Personally I think that the prank was most inappropriate. All it did was give our left-wing enemies more ammunition for their malicious lies against us patriots.

Burnham’s running gear is not an election-winning look

Dear Editor

Why does Andy Burnham believe his gut, sweat and running clothes will get him elected? When did the clean-shaven, sharp suit-wearing look go out of fashion?

Wars are not eco-friendly

Dear Editor

If the public were aware of the massive volume of greenhouse emissions created by wars, world entertainment and Mother Nature, they would not be happy about their taxes being wasted on UK Net Zero for our minuscule 1 per cent of global emissions. Direct emissions resulting from war come from fuel consumption by aircraft, tanks, naval ships and energy use on military bases. Indirect emissions come from the manufacture of weapons and ammunition and rebuilding destroyed infrastructure. If wars were treated as a country they would rank fourth in global emissions after China, the US and India. There are the eye-watering emissions created by sporting and music events which are never targeted by the Green Brigade, no doubt fearful of the repercussions. It is obvious that demands that we all buy EVs and heat pumps, walk or cycle, eat less meat, and stop flying on foreign holidays are pointless whilst other countries continue to exploit fossil fuels. Then there is Mother Nature whose natural CO2 dwarfs human emissions but the Green Brigade is strangely silent.

Curtailing jury trials will leave citizens more vulnerable

Dear Editor

The King’s Speech confirmed that the spectre of the removal of jury trials for ‘minor’ offences still hangs over us. With the current government under the control of any of the potential contenders for Starmer’s position, or Starmer staying in place, this policy is likely to continue, as Labour seeks to increase its stranglehold on the populace and some way – any way – gerrymander its way through to a (seemingly unlikely) 2029 election win.

The fact is that once jury trials are thrown out or eroded, citizens will be more vulnerable to prosecution and conviction under judges given too much power. Acquittal rates with juries are much higher than at magistrates’ courts (21.6 per cent compared with 11.4 per cent), a difference that holds specifically for speech-related offences (27.6 per cent compared with 15.9 per cent).

Three years is a long time in politics, and who knows what will happen between now and then? But I am sure that Labour will do anything to increase their chances of victory, and suppressing agitation for change and inducing fear will be fundamental to that.

A prayer in our hour of need

Dear Editor

Can I ask that you print this prayer for your readers to use in this, our hour of need for our nation. As a daily offering from many souls, it will be powerful in obtaining grace from God.

Daily Prayer for the United Kingdom

Adapted from the prayer by Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke for America

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, King of Heaven and Earth,
I place today my nation, the United Kingdom of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland,
into Your Heart pierced for love of us.
I acknowledge that true liberty is Your gift,
and that our lasting homeland is the eternal Kingdom of God.

Under the mantle of Our Lady of Glastonbury and Our Lady of Walsingham
And Our Lady of the Pew in Westminster, whose dowry we are,
and through the intercession of her Immaculate Heart,
bless my homeland anew,
purify her from sin,
and guide her leaders in truth, justice, and peace,
so that she may safeguard all human life,
respect the integrity of marriage and the family,
and honour the practice of religion.

Reign in my home and in my nation.
Draw every heart into communion with You,
that Your truth, love, justice, mercy, and peace may triumph
in my nation of the United Kingdom and throughout the world.

Amen.

Kind regards with every blessing on the work of your team

More taxes please

Dear Editor

There doesn’t seem to be a day that passes that the Government or the potential new Prime Minister don’t announce plans to introduce yet more ways of taxing us. Surely it would be more efficient and less problematic for them if they just took all our money in the beginning and then distributed it in their usual efficient manner.
