A Mt. Juliet woman is accused of taking more than $8 million from her employer and routing it to her personal bank account.

A lawsuit, filed by workforce management company nextSource, the woman – who was the top payroll employee for the company – allegedly created fake worker profiles, diverting payouts to herself through the fake accounts over an eight-year period.

The complaint states that an account department employee noticed on October 12 that more than $260,000 had disappeared over the course of two months. The money had been sent to a Tennessee bank account that was not on file for any clients of the company.

The lawsuit goes on to say that, after being questioned, the payroll employee claimed that a software error was responsible for the missing funds. The company’s attorneys stated that the woman did not report for work the day after being questioned, and they then noticed that files were being changed or deleted altogether.

The woman allegedly later contacted nextSource and admitted to being responsible for the missing funds and stated that she would wire the money back.

The company continued an internal investigation, even after the woman wired $267,792. It was then discovered that more than $8 million had been diverted to the woman’s account during that past eight years.

It is possible that additional employees may have been part of the scheme. A temporary injunction was ordered against the woman by the court, prohibiting her from destroying evidence, selling real estate, and transferring any funds from her bank account.

She is scheduled to be in court on November 3.
