I RECENTLY witnessed the insulting behaviour of a gathering of cultural warriors and #BeKind advocates who, when asked to clap as a mark of respect for Henry Nowak, chose to turn their backs and remain silent.
Why? Because the gesture was instigated by those protesting about the Crowborough asylum-seekers’ camp. Never mind that the virtue signallers were holding placards promoting love and unity. All that flew out of the window to suit their warped agenda. Never mind two-tier policing. These people operate two-tier virtuosity as well.
The pitfalls of discussing politics and the culture wars with younger family members is a common complaint on the part of parents and more particularly grandparents. We have, however, another category with whom rational discussion is difficult if not impossible.
Many of those who showed such disrespect to the memory of Nowak were women, and a common experience emerges i.e. that having informed discussion with a particular kind of woman can be difficult, if not impossible. As one man remarked: ‘I met the other day an educated white, liberal woman of a certain age. This type is far more pernicious than any other.’
Those who share such an assessment may trace this back to the pandemic period where anybody who expressed even mild scepticism about that economically and societally destructive period was instantly labelled as an ‘anti-vaxxer’ or ‘covid denier’. The level of propaganda pumped out by the government, its nudge unit and the paid-for MSM established the ‘good/bad’ syndrome to such an extent as to resemble the era of witch trials: indeed some of us could well have been burnt at the stake in past times.
That was of course preceded by Brexit which still lingers on the lips of the righteous – i.e. remainers – as a sort of mucky word which can only be muttered under one’s breath. It also established the principle that those who vote in the ‘wrong’ way are morally and intellectually defective: the liberal educated middle class knows best and anybody who opposes their agendas is viewed as ignorant rabble.
While the ‘C’ word and the ‘B’ word have faded in the daily conscience, our middle-class liberal ladies have two replacement dirty words, viz Trump and Farage or – if they want to vaunt their credentials – Tommy Robinson. Such is the desire, and indeed need, for our ladies to sing to a socially acceptable song sheet. Given their propensity for being told what to believe and what to say, it’s highly likely that in the past they would have sung to a different song sheet – that of the church. In which case they would have arranged flowers and polished the church brass and visited the sick, which would have been rather more useful than waving silly placards or wearing rainbows.
As members of the middle or upper classes in past times they would have engaged in charitable works and in times of war nursed wounded soldiers – while their working-class counterparts would have been slaving away in munitions factories or on the land. The liberal middle-class lady today exists in something of a moral vacuum and therefore cleaves to off-the-shelf righteousness.
Our ladies exhibit utter disdain for the working class and their ‘right-wing’ views. This is so clear in Crowborough where we are faced every Sunday by a phalanx of people – with, yes, a majority of white middle-class women – who hold placards parroting things about love and unity whilst, almost literally, looking down their noses at those protesting against a camp of some 540 male migrants adjacent to the town. They outnumber the men present, who seem to relish reliving their student days.
This cohort has apparently decided that all the men in the camp are refugees and fleeing war and torture. As such, they are to be admired and cossetted and petted. Such a view is aided and abetted by one of their leaders, Rachel Millward, deputy leader of the Green Party, who declared that these men are doctors and engineers. As such they can feel secure in the knowledge that the migrants are of the same class and therefore all jolly nice chaps. In fact they know nothing of the provenance of these men and so can continue to float in a miasma of infinite ignorance. I have an inkling that in reality they feel subliminal superiority because, yes, they’re white and the men in the camp aren’t. Perish the thought but such inbuilt patronage is very comfy.
The fact that all the occupants of the camp are men seems not to trouble them. Do they ever wonder how the women are getting on in the countries the men have left? A quantity of them will have come from Sudan, Somalia, Iran and Pakistan, countries which have shocking records of extreme sexual violence as well as honour-killings, child marriage and extensive restrictions on female rights. Since it is inevitably men in these countries who perpetrate sexual violence and control the lives of women, it is reasonable to conclude that many of the men in the camp will acquiesce to such cultural behaviour.
In all the placard-waving and Be Kind messages observed in Crowborough, I have never seen or heard any reference whatsoever to the welfare of the women who the men in the camp have left behind (nor is the welfare of women in our country mentioned because that’s a ‘right-wing’ preoccupation). Such is the apparent exclusivity of thought of the liberal white woman. Just as any unprescribed thoughts appear to be out of bounds, so it’s definitely prescribed to despise everybody who raises issues about the camp. Just as they demoted lockdown sceptics and brexiteers to some lesser species, so they clearly consider themselves to be morally superior to anybody who questions uncontrolled immigration.
They would berate us for not liking an uncontrolled influx of men from medieval societies, but I would suggest that it is they who suffer from a basic lack of intellectual curiosity, an unhealthy tendency to cling to tribal paths of thought and, yes, an utterly misguided sense of moral superiority.
Of course most of our placard wavers do not live in Crowborough and are tucked safely away in outlying Sussex areas, transported here on Sunday mornings to signal their virtue and annoy the hell out of local people who really care about their town. Living at a safe distance from migrant hotels, camps and HMOs doesn’t half help when being frightfully kind and benign.
Writing as I do as news arrives of the attempted beheading in Northern Ireland, I would suggest that those who support open borders and express love for those who enter our country illegally should immediately lay down their ideological arms. As such, it would be greatly appreciated if they could absent themselves from the streets of Crowborough and elsewhere and direct their empathy towards those who are mutilated and killed by men who enter our country illegally. As it is, every sane thinking man or woman feels that enough is enough and that care, love and respect should be accorded to those who live here legally and behave in accordance with our laws and cultural mores. Whether the ruling elite understands that remains open to question.
