Tennessee Conservative News Staff –

Family members of Kenwood Middle School students who were involved in a March 27 bus accident showed up at the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board’s meeting Tuesday night, demanding answers and accountability.

Parents say the school system did not provide adequate communication during and after the accident, which left two students dead and many more injured.

Xavier Lugo, parent of one of the surviving students, says that families are struggling to process the accident in the aftermath.

“We’ve dealt with trauma, grief and an unimaginable amount of stress these last few months,” Lugo said.

Lugo countered the district’s statement that all families had been notified the day of the crash.

“That statement was false,” he said, stating that many found out about the accident via social media.

The grandmother of another survivor said the school’s office hung up on her eight times as she tried to call and get information about her grandson.

“I put my lifeline in your hands, and in the wake of tragedy the school went silent and didn’t communicate with us,” she said.

Lugo also criticized their handling of involved students, alleging that the district was more concerned with testing that their children’s emotional well-being.

He also stated that no families have received any assistance in covering the costs involved with medical care in relation to the accident.

“While the district prepares for summer break, our families are preparing for continued medical appointments, therapy sessions and trauma recovery,” he said. “Parents are left to pick up the pieces of a reality they did not break.”

“This is a defining moment,” Lugo said. “You can choose accountability, transparency, meaningful action and doing what’s right – not what’s easy.”
