Imagine going to court to force the release of investigative material that ends up proving your own guilt. Actually, we don’t have to imagine that at all. Democrats did that with their push to release the Jeffrey Epstein files, which then ended careers for high-profile progressives and Democrats.
Get ready for a replay of How to Create Backfire In Three Easy Steps. The Democratic National Committee commissioned an “autopsy” to determine how they managed to lose the popular vote and the Electoral College to Donald Trump. DNC chair Ken Martin then promptly buried it, likely because the debacle’s causes were clear enough – the years-long cover-up of Joe Biden’s dementia, followed by a cooked replacement process and the worst major-party ‘nominee’ in living memory.
Now that ‘nominee’ wants to force the DNC to make its findings public, and, well … pass the popcorn:
As former Vice President Kamala Harris considers another run for president, she is also signaling that she has no problem with a public airing of what went wrong last time — telling donors she believes the Democratic National Committee should release its buried autopsy of her failed 2024 campaign, according to a person who has heard the conversations.
While she indicated to donors that she had no issue with releasing it, Harris has not discussed the postmortem with DNC Chairman Ken Martin and did not know about his decision to keep it under wraps until it happened, this person said.
Ahem. Perhaps the person who was handed $1.5 billion to spend over 107 days and still managed to lose and go into significant debt might want to check with Martin first to see what the report actually says. Not only did Harris get enough cash to float a small country, but she also squandered the polling boost that accompanied her coronation as nominee in the rush to send a senile Biden packing. Harris and others also led a conspiracy to hide his mental incompetence from voters for at least two years previous to the backroom switcheroo.
What part of that does Harris think escaped the coroners who put together this autopsy? Even reporters who cooperated with the cover-up finally began monetizing it after the election. Several launched the Now It Can Be Told genre of political quasi-fiction in books where they claimed to be shocked, shocked that Biden’s dementia had been well known among Democrats and donors. The incidents recounted in these revisionist tomes showed that the DNC knew it well enough to cook the primaries to keep Biden from having to exert himself against challengers that would have created enough demand for public events that would have exposed the cover-up in time to elect another nominee.
And Harris as Biden’s VP would be highly implicated in that cover-up. Under the 25th Amendment, Harris had the primary responsibility to report Biden’s incompetence to Congress, along with the majority of Biden’s Cabinet. I highly doubt that Democrat coroners went this far down the progression of responsibility for the 2024 loss, but any discussion of the real reasons for Democrats’ 2024 disaster will prompt this discussion as well. And Harris has never given a satisfactory answer to this dereliction of duty, not during the campaign and not since either.
Does Harris really want to open that can of worms? Even if the autopsy spreads blame around – and it should – Harris is the central character of this failure, the candidate who had a head start, a bursting bank account, and a slobbering press. And she still lost all seven swing states, along with the popular vote for the first time in twenty years for Democrats.
Plus, there’s the decision to bury the autopsy. When the GOP lost the 2012 election, the shock prompted the party to commission an autopsy, but Reince Priebus made it public. Not only that, Priebus made big changes to the party’s organizational structure, particularly in messaging and ground operations. That was the point of the autopsy.
In comparison, Martin won’t make the autopsy he commissioned public or even discuss its findings. Why? The obvious conclusion is that it told the truth about the party’s corrupt machinations in propping Biden up despite his cognitive illness and cooking the primary to cover it up. It probably also has a stinging indictment of the refusal to use an open convention to replace Biden and instead slamming the crown on the equally incompetent and incoherent Harris. If this autopsy confined itself to other matters, such as messaging or organization, Martin would have published it immediately and used it to frame the 2024 loss and distract from the corruption at the core of the Democrats’ campaign.
The most amusing part of the NBC report isn’t about the autopsy, though. It’s about Al Sharpton’s advice to Harris:
She recently asked the Rev. Al Sharpton for his advice on her next steps, according to a person familiar with their conversation. Sharpton told her that she has nothing to prove, having been the first woman and the first woman of color elected to the vice presidency, according to a person who detailed their conversation. In her 2024 bid for the White House, brought on by the late withdrawal of President Joe Biden, Harris collected more votes — 75 million — than any previous runner-up.
Her legacy is secure, Sharpton told her. But he also admonished her that she should consider the possibility that it might be diminished if she were to run and lose again.
Did I read this correctly? Did the Reverend Al, race-baiter supreme, tell a black woman to retire from politics? Time to order even more popcorn …
