About That Epstein List… Not So Fast – HotAir

Don’t get your hopes up too much if you have been waiting to see the names on the flight lists of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. A delay is expected to allow one unidentified woman a last-minute reprieve of 30 days.

The list was supposed to be released this week. However, a woman identified as ‘Jane Doe 107’ has brought the process to a halt. There is much confusion surrounding the release and how many names will be available and when. The list of Jeffrey Epstein’s associates and friends was supposed to have been released on Tuesday. Then word came out that there is a delay and the list includes 187 names that are to be made public.

The woman claims she will be in danger if her name is made public because she lives in a ‘culturally conservative country.’ The country has not been named.

On December 21, Judge Loretta Preska granted the woman a 30-day appeal, delaying the release of her name until January 22nd. She has until then to prove that she will be in danger if she is unmasked.

While she has won a last-minute reprieve, it remains unclear if the same delay now applies to the entire list.

The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York – which was yesterday advising that the list was imminent – is yet to provide an answer, and the woman’s attorney is also in the dark as to whether everyone else will now enjoy the same extension.

As I mentioned, confusion is the order of the day. We now know that some names are supposed to be unsealed today.

I’m writing this in early afternoon and I haven’t heard a peep on cable news about the names being released yet. More than 150 of the names are to be released. That means Jane Doe 107 is in a rapidly shrinking minority.

The first of 150-plus names connected to the Jeffrey Epstein case are expected be unsealed on Wednesday, a federal court official told The Messenger.

“The unsealing is expected to begin today,” Ed Friedland, the District Executive for the Southern District of New York, said.

The documents were ordered unsealed by Judge Loretta Preska in a civil case brought against Ghislaine Maxwell by longtime accuser Virginia Giuffre.

Names of Epstein and Maxwell’s victims, associates and alleged co-conspirators are expected to be made public as part of the document dump, according to Preska’s order.

Some names may be familiar to most people – like Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew. Expectations are being tamped down by those who know who is and isn’t on the list. It may not be as spicy as could be expected. And, there’s Alan Dershowitz who wants all the names to come out, including his.

Alan Dershowitz, a former Epstein associate, is among those who supports their release.

‘The reason I wanted everything put out– and I don’t think the judge put everything out, I think she was selective in what she put out and that’s unfair.

‘I want everything out, every document, every piece of paper, half-truths or lies, and I wanted them out for personal reasons because I know that they would prove what I’ve said from day one, that I did nothing wrong, and the woman who accused me later admitted that she may have misidentified me, confused me with someone else.

‘So I wanted everything out right from the beginning because I have nothing to hide,’ he told NewsNation’s Leland Vittert last night.

‘There are some people who may be ashamed of the fact that they hung out with Epstein but remember a lot of people hung out with Epstein before he was convicted.

Preska ordered the documents unsealed on December 18. She gave a 14-day window for people to have time to appeal the ruling if they do not want their name released. As of Tuesday, no one had come forward who are included in this document dump.

Soon we will know if all this plays out today or not.
